Actual rating is 3.5 , but I'm rounding up. As the years went by, I felt this place was starting to lose its way. This stay, was a glimpse into the new life this resort is getting, it's great to see. Don't stop here though!
Service was mostly fantastic with the exception of the front desk, even though they did right some wrongs without further escalation. They had accidentally checked me in under a different name, and as such gave me someone else's (who had not yet arrived) room. They upgraded me to an executive suite from a signature suite no questions asked... they're demeanor was just kind of aloof, and this was pretty much every interaction.
Room 3101 was phenomenal. Spacious, Vegas-level stylish, and had lots of features. Bed was comfy, got lots of rest, no noise from neighboring rooms, coffee, tea, and bath amenities were fantastic. Gripes were: TV programming was typical Marriott stuff, among the most limited I've seen anywhere, and no pay-per-view, AC blower and temperature were insufficient for the size room, and the bedroom AC unit made knocking sounds at lower fan speeds. Fix those things? Perfection.
Food and service related to that were top-notch. My favorites were the chile rellenos, posole and wheat blueberry pancakes from room service, and the chicken skewers from Salud.
Convention center, gift shop/coffee shop, and spa area are still under renovation, with restaurants and lobby area still untouched, although I'm sure that's next.
Pool area? Oof... what a let down. I've been to pretty much every resort pool area in Tucson, and I was most disappointed with this one. Outside of the lazy river, which I thought was too small and too crowded to get into, there's nothing attractive about it. No adults-only area, no noticeable view, overall blasé landscaping and design, and loud, unruly, trash-leaving children everywhere with their oblivious parents. Needless to say, I wasn't at the pool long before I went back to the room. Go back to the drawing board and start fresh!
All in all, I absolutely loved my stay, and looking forward to seeing this place completely finished with its remodel. Just please do something about the front desk training, and redo that disappointing pool area!!!
