“Handy location. Dated, but good value.”

The hotel was an easy walk to the Freedom Trail, and we liked being right beside China Town for lots of great eating options, and near the posh Back Bay, and the up and coming SoWa design district. The hotel is just beside the T metro on the orange line, and there are a few homeless people in this area, but they keep themselves to themselves and the area felt safe to us.
The hotel is dated, though the large rooms have been partially updated, but have a vintage vibe! The main issue was the musty smell in both the corridors and room, that I assume is from the aircon which would crash into action periodically. The bed was very comfortable with good quality linens. A drip-style coffee machine was provided, along with a large fridge and microwave which were very randomly dumped on the floor and made it look more like a motel. The very old shower head was located about 3 foot up from the bath, so made it impossible to shower without squatting!
Staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The gym looked to be miniscule, but you could request access to the adjoining YMCA gym.
While we paid upfront for breakfast to be included, but this turned out to be up to $30 credit per person per day, but this was sufficient to cover a main dish and drink (quality was variable - one day took ages and both meals then came without the eggs, and when the eggs were finally brought, we'd finished eating the rest of the meal, while another day it was really greasy - while on other days it was good).

Hotel public spaces are very nice. The room was decent size; however, there was about 1 foot between end of bed and bureau. Can't easily use bureau draws and difficult to get from one side to the other. Bathroom shower is small and door stuck. Had to use phone as TV remote via app (that was a first); however, upon checking out I asked and was told should have been a remote in the room. We picked hotel based on location of T station but that section of the orange line was out of service for 2 weeks so had to walk further than planned. Hotel had breakfast at usual hotel prices. Located across from Tufts medical ER but the location wasn't noisy . . hotel must be well sound proofed.

I stay in Boston frequently. This was my first, and last, stay at this hotel. First, the city noises are unbearable. I suspect it's the proximity to the ER entrance of Tufts. Every night it was sirens, screaming, trucks backing up with the beep-beep-beep. The hotel provides sound machines in the room. If you're unlucky enough to say here, use it.
Also, the hotel is old. Faster to take the stairs than the elevators. Shower heads mounted for someone that's 5' tall. A terrible (small) fitness center. A crappy neighborhood. A soft, droopy mattress that jacked up my back. Just avoid this place if you can.
