Image of the Tripadvisor rating Greedy, Preys on People in Dire Situations/Weather

Easily the worst and most greedy experience I have ever had at a hotel/motel. Easily the worst and most greedy experience I have ever had at a hotel/motel. They will take advantage of you if they can, let me explain - A few weeks ago I along with a group of college students went camping at the stovepipe wells campsite. On our 2nd night there, a massive and sudden dust storm hit; being outside or in a tent was unsafe and we had nowhere to take shelter other than the motel. Visibility on roads was so bad that we couldn’t leave in our cars either. We decided we would need to all get a motel room, being college students meant that money is tight so we would all have to pitch in. We then discovered that these basic motel rooms were 250$ each, no discount due to the weather. I just checked online and found rooms at the hotel priced significantly less than $250… They were taking advantage of the situation and dangerous weather to make themselves a quick buck - from college students no less, disgusting business practice. We then were told since there were 8 of us that we would have to buy two rooms. That’s right, they were asking 500$ from us for one night, with no discount or compassion for our situation. A big ask for a group of college kids who had planned out a frugal camping trip. Even after explaining our situation, they denied us any kind of discount or help amidst the sudden and harmful weather. We were forced to pay the $500 and stay the night and the motel itself wasn’t any better than your run of the mill motel 6. Just a terrible terrible experience and awful customer service. Do not give this greedy establishment your business, they prey on people in dire situations to make themselves more money. I will be reposting this review everywhere I can in hopes that people see it and choose a different hotel in the area that actually cares about their customers. Read less

Just the amount of amenities and food options we needed. It was no more than a little over an hour from the edges of the park that we could reach in our rental sedan, so it really was in the middle of everything. The room was comfortable and the restaurants were great. They even had enough vegetarian options for my wife over our 4 days there. We would certainly stay again! Read less

The staff is rude. The impression I left with is that the people who work here don't realize that the guests are paying for the services, that the staff's salaries are indirectly funded by those payments and by their taxpayer money. It was a bit like they were doing us a favor by letting us lodge in their house. Very rude person on the front… Read more

The location of Stove Pipe was perfect. We'd absolutely choose to stay here again given the convenience. Otherwise, we'd spend an hour+ each way (2 hrs+/day) driving to/from the park. Yes the park entrance may be closer than 1 hr from the nearest town, but keep in mind the park ENTRANCE is even far from most of the activities. Yes, we'd stay… Read more

Yes the park entrance may be closer than 1 hr from the nearest town, but keep in mind the park ENTRANCE is even far from most of the activities. Yes, we'd stay here again, but..... Our room had a sewage or something icky smell. We kept the bathroom door shut and that kept the smell at least contained in there. Our room exterior door was difficult to open/close. I could not get our door open from the inside. My husband had to do it every time. The room was small, but we knew that. 1 double / 1 single bed. Floor tile(s) broken in bathroom & stains on the wall. Ice machine doesn't work, but they did give us a coupon for free bag of ice across the street when we inquired. Outlet plug on the lamp didn't work for my laptop at the desk area. Expensive at $200/nt for a "motel 6" type room It appears they are remodeling some (hopefully all?) the rooms. Hopefully room 52 will be one of the next ones. Having said all that the property itself is "cute" for where it is. They had an outdoor fireplace, restaurant, bar, etc.... Employees were all great! We looked at staying at the Inn or Ranch also directly in the park, but they didn't have a "national park" vibe. More resort like feel and wasn't what we were looking for. Restaurant was good. Expensive, but that's to be expected due to remote location. They offered vegetarian choices and I believe gluten free. We expected to pay more for staying directly in the park. We had no problem with that. Time is $ especially when we only had 2 full days in the park. However, for that price we expected a basic room to be in better condition. Read less

Our room was very nice. Completely updated. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and the food was great and fairly reasonable. The gem was the general store. I got my breakfast burrito there every morning. All staff was very accommodating. Check in was a breeze. Highly recommend, but be prepared to open your wallet. You're paying for… Read more
