The hotel

John Muir Lodge is in an excellent location for exploring Kings Canyon National Park and giant sequoia country. A warm welcome awaits under the lodge's open beamed ceiling and in front of the stone fireplace, ensuring all guests get to feel right at home. Accommodation follows suit and you'll discover recently renovated rooms with hand crafted furniture and local artwork adding to the instant appeal. After a good night's rest there's nothing better than an early start to soak up the sun rising over the sequoias. Picnic supplies can be picked up at the general stores opposite the lodge and once you've packed up the fishing tackle, charged your camera and hit the trail, it's time to discover just what John Muir fell in love with way back when.

Rooms were good except for mattress that needs replacement. They challenge you to a 5 minute shower no problem water is set so it's barely warm. Quiet room. Great Wifi compared to Yosemite. Beautiful area so would stay again it comings back to Kings. Restaurant and store close by.

Even with piles of snow on the ground and slush on the trails Sequoia Forest is gorgeous and both exhilarating and relaxing. The trees are worth the visit, uou should go see them! And the lodge rooms are comfy and quiet and the food at the restaurant is outstanding.

All about location. Great place to stay for sequoia and Kings Canyon. Very friendly staff. Room was very clean and a good size. we had room103 which was next to housekeeping, it sounding like washing machine on spin cycle every morning about 0100hrs. walls are paper thin, and we heard everything our neighbours said. This is a motel (Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn caliber). They have tried to dress it up with some faux woodsy details. There are not many choices in Kings Canyon, Sequoia & the surrounding area. This is a motel (Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn caliber). They have tried to dress it up with some faux woodsy details. There are not many choices in Kings Canyon, Sequoia & the surrounding area. This is in Kings Canyon National Park & was the least expensive option at just over $250/night. The room had a fridge & coffee maker. They have one microwave in the lobby that we didn't know about until we arrived. I was a bit taken aback by no maid service in the room. We had hung out towels back to show that we were happy to re-use them in keeping with their Green initiative but the beds were unmade. Maybe it was because it was October and they had no help left??? They had a beautiful fireplace in lobby but no fire in it. Lot's of board games and unlike a lot of other hotels quite a few people were enjoying the lobby. Restaurant(singular) was down the hill & mediocre. It got boring after two nights. In the end it was a good choice & would stay again if I ever return. Read less

Location (with walks from the door) was our favourite thing. Surrounded by Sequoia, birds, chipmunks etc. just a fantastic place and ideal for hiking and as a base to visit Kings Canyon and surrounding areas. The Lodge stands separately from the restaurant and shop, just a very short walk. Both of these were used and they were really very good. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Absolutely loved it.
