Hilton Los Angeles Universal City

Hollywood, Los Angeles

Star rating

The hotel

A Hollywood hangout with noteworthy neighbours, this LA bolthole’s just a block from the theme park heaven of Universal Studios, and just a subway trip from the star-studded sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard. That hasn’t stopped Hilton Los Angeles Universal City coming up with a few extra treats of its own though – our favourite being FIVE on the Hill, where you can enjoy signature dishes and freshly-curated cocktails with Hollywood Hills in the background. Most make a beeline straight for Universal Studios – and, despite it being just around the corner, there’s a complimentary shuttle to save you walking (great for hot days!). And, while you’re there, you can also take in a movie, grab cocktails or craft beers, hit big-name shops, and dine at celeb-chef eateries in the neon lustre of Universal CityWalk.

In Summary, it's the closest hotel to Universal, that's pretty much the only reason to stay here. Everything is else is pretty overpriced for what you are getting. (Paid over $450 for one night + parking) Customer Service was nice, nothing exceptional. Only thing that was bothered us a little was being repeatedly told that we need to be checked out of the hotel before 11 am. This is actually the most perfect property if you are an introvert, as all check in and out process could be through your phone as a Hilton Member. Full Trip: Arrived at around 7pm after some good LA Traffic to attend Fan Fest Nights at Universal. Checked in and was informed the hotel pool would be closed all day until the tomorrow 12pm. We were welcomed to use the Universal Sheraton pool next door as long as we took our own pool towels and credit cards if we were to buy anything. Would have liked to be informed of this change before my stay... It was also our first time staying, so we didn't really know anything about the property but were never told about any other amenities in the hotel other than the pool and universal shuttle after mentioning we were attending fan fest nights. Did not use valet services for car or luggage. Was not told about breakfast on property or any of the food/Starbucks. Got a Universal View Queen Suite, since it was the only room available for our group when we booked. Normal room. Beds were nice and actually a decent size for a queen bed which was appreciated. Room was also really cold even though we kept trying to fix the thermostat. Bathroom was nice and roomy. There were some issues during our stay though. We did find one hair in the shower curtain and one in the bed but just removed it and thought nothing of it. We tried using the ice machine on our floor and it did not work. Will say the property is a bit dated, not as much as the Sheraton building but still seems a bit older, could use new carpet... Proximity to the park was the best! I would say our biggest issue is that we have always been able to stay at least 1 hour after check out time at Hilton properties. It is something that we expect as members, yet we requested a later checkout and were told that that could not be offered unless we were to be charged $75 for 30 mins and that could increase with time. We were walking in City Walk when we received this notice and returned quickly to the hotel to leave. There was no lenience. It was until later that we saw that a small sheet of paper was behind the wifi password that actually explained that. We thought this could have been better explained by the staff. While packing we received another call at 10:40 asking if we had left the room already, which we had not. The phone was ringing at 11 as we were walking out of the room, which we want to assume was staff asking if we had vacated to room, as we had checked out from our phone. All in all, our stay at Hilton was not for the hotel, amenities, or the staff; it was because it was close to the park. I would probably not stay here if I was coming back to the parks...but who knows. Read less

This is a great hotel within easy walking distance of Universal Studios. The room was huge and very comfortable. The staff at the front desk give you lots of information about the hotel and are funny and friendly. The restaurant in the lobby is very solid with quick service. The top floor has great views. This is an expensive hotel, but worth it… Read more

She was so kind, helpful and answered my questions. I’ve honestly never had such a positive experience at a hotel. I also loved that they had shuttles to and from Universal City Walk. The hotel is very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. I would definitely recommend that you book your next stay at The Hilton. Don’t forget to join Hilton Honors for points, and their awesome app. Read less
