Hilton Los Angeles Universal City

The hotel

A Hollywood hangout with noteworthy neighbours, this LA bolthole’s just a block from the theme park heaven of Universal Studios, and just a subway trip from the star-studded sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard. That hasn’t stopped Hilton Los Angeles Universal City coming up with a few extra treats of its own though – our favourite being FIVE on the Hill, where you can enjoy signature dishes and freshly-curated cocktails with Hollywood Hills in the background. Most make a beeline straight for Universal Studios – and, despite it being just around the corner, there’s a complimentary shuttle to save you walking (great for hot days!). And, while you’re there, you can also take in a movie, grab cocktails or craft beers, hit big-name shops, and dine at celeb-chef eateries in the neon lustre of Universal CityWalk.

The housekeeping was excellent as well and each day we returned to a clean room with fresh towels. My kids really loved the pool area as well along with the various games they have down there like ping pong, giant connect four, and giant chess. While we didn’t make use of it, I also liked the fact that they had a vending machine full of all kinds of various things like deodorant, tooth paste, medicine, etc. Makes it easy to get an item at all hours of the day in case you forget to pack something. The food was good as well at the breakfast buffet. We also went to the Starbucks while there. While it isn’t a full Starbucks but instead a hotel offering with Starbucks products, we still enjoyed all the offerings…especially the cinnamon roll or the ham and cheese pretzel croissant! Will definitely stay here again if we come back out that way for Universal Studios or a long weekend in LA/Hollywood. Read less

We stayed at the Hilton Universal City for one night after a long day at Universal Studios. We stayed at the Hilton Universal City for one night after a long day at Universal Studios. It was nice because we were able to check in at 9:00am (room wasn't ready, but I wasn't expecting it to be) and get our parking key card. Parking is $50 a day, but it was worth it to us because we didn’t have to pay at the park and pay at our hotel. We parked our car and walked to Universal Studios. They have plenty of signs that show you where to go and it was less than a five minute walk.Later in the day we received a text that our room was ready, which was nice to know that when we were all done with the park, we just could go straight to our room. The rooms are nice. The beds are comfortable, the room was clean and had a nice view. The room was stocked with water, coffee, shampoo, conditioner, and lotions (crabtree&evelyn). We went down to the pool around 8:30 for a night swim in everything was nice and clean at the pool. The pool area also had warm towels readily available. In the morning we ate breakfast from the little coffee shop, it was pricey, but convenient. I knew this going in, but I do wish they had more affordable, food options at the hotel. Due to convenience and being a Hilton member, I would come back to this hotel. Read less

Very nice hotel. Pool was awesome. Close enough to walk to Universal with 2 small kids! Definitely will stay here again. Hotel room service was very good too. Everyone was very friendly and pointed out where to go and where to park. Clean rooms and very nice pillows.
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Yes you are close, but so-so rooms with lots of extra fees. Buyer Beware

They also have a shuttle service which is supposed to run about every 20 minutes. It's not very big, so get in line early. The room quality was fair at best. The lighting was awful which made for a mostly dark room. It only had one bed stand on one side of the bed. The "digital key" didn't work, twice, so we ended up using regular room cards. The service at the only breakfast buffet was very poor and the cost was $90.87 for two people, including a "facility charge" of $10.80, plus $8.07 tax. And the charge for self-parking is $50 per day. And you are still not done with extra fees. The room only charge was an average of $258 per night, but that's only the beginning. Each night we paid the following fees: City tax $5.00 Occupancy tax $35.35 City tourism $5.00 State tourism $.50 LA Hotel Ordinance $11.00 Total: $56.85 So the total cost for 1 night was $314.85 and, if you add parking, about $365 per night. To us, it was not worth it. It is close to the park, but you pay a lot for the privilege. Read less

Service was prompt and friendly, with staff providing a welcoming experience. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the overall facility had a fresh, pleasant scent. However, the TV was not a smart device, limiting streaming options from personal devices. While basic cable was available and Netflix was initially accessible, the app stopped working after the first day and could not be restored, even after restarting the TV or logging out/back in. Valet parking costs $10 more than self-parking, but it's worth the added convenience, especially since the parking area is not located near the entrance. Additionally, valet service ensures your vehicle is cooled and ready by the time you arrive. A 15% facility fee is added to dining bills. When questioned, management described it as an administrative charge intended to support wage increases for service staff, though they did not confirm that the fee directly benefits employees. Two servers stated they did not receive any portion of the fee and claimed it was actually implemented in response to the tariff imposed on China. We learned that this hotel is franchise-owned by a Chinese owner and the facility fee is not applied at other locations. After noticing the added charge, we decided to dine elsewhere. While they offer an all-you-can-eat seafood bar on weekends, the 15% fee pushes the cost to over $200—an already steep price. We recommend this hotel for those looking to stay near Universal Studios, as it's within walking distance and offers a complimentary shuttle service for added convenience. Read less
