ANdAZ West Hollywood

West Hollywood, Los Angeles

Star rating

The hotel

As sleek and understated as it appears from its spot on LA’s legendary Sunset Boulevard, the Andaz West Hollywood is actually a prime slab of Rock ‘n’ Roll history that dates back to 1963. Over the years the likes of The Who’s Keith Moon and The Stones’ Keith Richards have sent TVs flying off the (now enclosed) balconies, while Led Zep drummer John Bonham reportedly rode a motorbike up and down the corridors. Thoroughly renovated for the 21st century the Andaz relishes its history, but these days the musical motifs complement the minimally chic décor in boutique-style rooms rather than run rampant. Indeed, there’s a friendly, unpretentious welcome here that extends from the hotel’s enticing eateries to its breathtaking rooftop pool (where, incidentally, Spinal Tap’s end of tour party was filmed). Rock. And. Roll.

This most recent trip, I was particularly impressed by the newer additions of water refilling stations and coffee in the lobby. I was also happy to have an empty mini fridge waiting for me in my room. Speaking of rooms, I love how spacious they are and am always in awe of the views of LA. There is some minor wear and tear on some of the furniture and wall, but not a dealbreaker by any means. Some have also complained of the noise along Sunset, but have never had any problems during my numerous stays over the years. Read less

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome, all the staff we encountered were helpful and polite, nothing too much trouble. The rooms are basic, but immaculately clean and the beds are comfortable. overall the hotel had a great vibe, in a great location and the rooftop pool was a delight.

Hotel is close to a couple of restaurants and quite central. Pool a little busy and no beds available when we went up around 3pm but it cleared a little around 5pm ish. Bar man was very kind and opened a cabana for us when there were no seats ( usually pre booked). Room comfortable and ideal for us as it was a pit stop whilst we explored Los… Read more

Staff very friendly . Breakfast was included on our booking and was very good - if massive portions ( which are standard for USA). Altogether a pleasant stay. Wouldn’t necessarily return but good for what we needed Read less

Beware of hidden fees! This hotel charges a non-disclosed $32 per night 'destination fee,' which was only revealed after they took a credit card 'deposit' for incidentals at check-in. With the mandatory $75 valet, expect over $100 in extra nightly costs. I also had to dispute an erroneous $22 charge for 'guest parking' that I never incurred.… Read more

The location is prime, but the hotel is outdated and surprisingly noisy. Staff seemed unenthusiastic, and overall, it was not a positive experience. I won't be back. Read less
