ANdAZ West Hollywood

West Hollywood, Los Angeles

Star rating

The hotel

As sleek and understated as it appears from its spot on LA’s legendary Sunset Boulevard, the Andaz West Hollywood is actually a prime slab of Rock ‘n’ Roll history that dates back to 1963. Over the years the likes of The Who’s Keith Moon and The Stones’ Keith Richards have sent TVs flying off the (now enclosed) balconies, while Led Zep drummer John Bonham reportedly rode a motorbike up and down the corridors. Thoroughly renovated for the 21st century the Andaz relishes its history, but these days the musical motifs complement the minimally chic décor in boutique-style rooms rather than run rampant. Indeed, there’s a friendly, unpretentious welcome here that extends from the hotel’s enticing eateries to its breathtaking rooftop pool (where, incidentally, Spinal Tap’s end of tour party was filmed). Rock. And. Roll.

My partner and I stayed here for a week early May. Overall it is a really nice hotel. Booking.com upgraded us to a double queen with ‘Hollywood hill views’ and breakfast. Unfortunately this didn’t get communicated properly with the hotel who stated breakfast wasn’t included. I questioned this with reception and fortunately they honoured the breakfast for us which I was appreciative of. The room was on the 4th floor. I am not sure if this is the room type I was supposed to have as the view was mainly the car park and a slight view of some of the hills. I was a little disappointed by this and would have preferred a higher room hence why I didn’t give 5 star rating. The breakfast was amazing each morning and free coffee machine was a really nice touch. The rooftop pool was amazing with a really good vibe. The room was more than adequate, spacious with comfortable bed. Although could do with a little decor updating. A special shout out to Jesse on reception who checked us in and out and was an ambassador for the hotel, friendly helpful and a really great guy! Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend Read less

Nothing had changed and they made me feel so special. The staff are super helpful and friendly especially Jesse on the front desk. The location is fantastic as the property is located ideal on the strip. Free nice coffee and water 24/7. Extremely clean and fantastic amenities. The bar is a lovely place to unwind after a big day in LA. Stroll up to the pool area and you are greeted by some nostalgic photographs and history. Andaz West Hollywood you absolutely rock and definitely will return ♥️ Can’t recommend this place enough! Read less

It was quiet but did have a fair amount of wear and tear. Strangely, they provided robes but no slippers. There's the obligatory destination fee which is never a good thing. However, they do provide free snacks and water throughout the day (crisps, crunch bars, jelly beans) and complimentary wine between 5-6pm. Breakfast was cooked-to-order and was excellent (along with the service). There's a smallish gym on the 2nd floor which is reasonable and included a couple of Peloton bikes if that’s your thing. However, the pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the pool on the roof. It's a bit small but at least it is heated and the views are fabulous! Read less

We love the Andaz! It's difficult to find a hotel in Hollywood that is clean, has parking (although expensive), a good breakfast restaurant, closet, good a/c, relatively quiet and a comfortable bed for less than $350/ night but this place delivers all that and free snacks! If using Chase travel points is an option for you, it's an especially good value (no refunds or date changes though). We stay almost monthly for our trips to the Magic Castle and being to the west of the Castle is so much better for traffic. Read less
