Meritage Resort and Spa

Napa, Napa Valley Wine Region

Star rating

The hotel

You know you’ve reached wine country when you arrive at Meritage Resort & Spa. On the threshold of Napa Valley, its design may be Tuscan-inspired, but its soul is pure Napa, with views of a grapevine-covered slope as you swim, hiking (or strolling) trails through nine acres of vineyards, an underground tasting room, and wine served at every turn. But it’s also a place that recognises exceptional wine should be paired with life’s other luxuries: separate adult and family pools, al fresco fireplaces and whirlpools, lazy Sunday brunches, and wining and dining venues like award-winning Siena, the Crush bowling lounge, a café-come-gelateria, and a luxury wine bar. But it’s the Estate Cave that promises the most indulgence; 40 ft underground, it hosts a wine tasting room and Spa Terra’s steam grottos and soaking pools.

Since I was there for a work function that took place on site I didn't get to enjoy all of the amenities, but just being in the environment was nice and relaxing. There was even a complimentary bottle of wine in the room to enjoy at my leisure. Unfortunately with all I had going on I didn't get to try it, but I did bring it home to enjoy at a later date. I would come back here for a personal visit as well. I highly recommend for your next adventure. Read less

Overall I would give this resort a good review and I would come back. I stayed there for the Napa Valley Jazz Getaway. Some things to know about this place though, It is geared for hosting events and conventions for businesses but is also good for vacationing. The only negative that I have to mention is the lack of housekeeping. We were there for four days. Checked in on a Wednesday and checked out on Sunday. During that time, housekeeping only provided service to our room once, and we received turn down service once. After not getting service the first two days I enquired at the front desk and I was told that they only service the rooms every 4 days. So basically our room got service on our last day there. So when I say no service, that means no clean sheets, no beds made, no trash collection and no clean towels. Now I know a lot of hotels are cleaning the rooms less frequently under the guise of environmental concerns, but really it's just about reducing costs. This practice is understandable at places like a Comfort Inn or a Holiday Inn, but when you are charging $600 plus a night ( like the Meritage does) it comes with expectations from the customers And those expectations are clean sheets and towels every night of the stay, along with beds made as well as an empty trash can. Now for the good. The restaurants are phenomenal. Olive and Hay is amazing! We had three meals there, a brunch, a lunch and a dinner, all three were amazing!! We had everything from breakfast food to fish to steak and pasta as well as dessert, and we had zero complaints from the quality of food to the service. We really enjoyed the pool area. They have two separate pools, one that's family friendly and one that's kid free. The wait staff at the pool were very timely and attentive. Bell hops, valet and front desk staff were exceptional. One of the front desk staff we had was very knowledgeable of the Napa Valley area and made some really good recommendations for restaurants that we incorporated into our itinerary and we were not disappointed in. Fitness rooms were above average. We like to work out on every trip we take. We are flexible with our workout routines and don't always follow our home workout schedule. Like most fitness rooms at hotels and resorts, there won't be any heavy lifting performed like we often do at home, but the fitness rooms (yes there are two and we used both) were more than adequately furnished to meet our exercise needs. There was a good combination of cardio machines, from bikes, to treadmills, rowers, and stair steppers, to free weights and machines. There was also a plentiful supply of water and towels. The property itself is well kept from a maintenance standpoint as well as the landscaping and the vineyard out back. We will more than likely comeback next year for the jazz festival and stay at the Meritage again. Hope this helps. Read less
