The hotel

Escape to the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach — this retreat sits next to the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and is ideal for a bit of walking, cycling or nature viewing. You'll be welcomed by 26-acres of lush landscaping, before the newly renovated lobby and bar area lure you in with a calm, coastal California chic theme. Directly off the Newporter Lounge, is a comfortable patio with a firewall, hanging lights and magnificent views of the bay — and those views carry through to many of the guest rooms. Take your pick from three beautiful outdoor pools: chill at the adults-only 'Indulge' pool and find a restful spot at the 'Serenity' pool, or have fun with the kids at the 'Oasis' pool. Whether your passion is shopping, dining, boating, or performing arts, you’ll find it close by. Hit the beach, take to the water on Newport Bay, or wander the shops at Balboa Island and Fashion Island. Disneyland, the Aquarium of the Pacific and Laguna Beach are just a little further away.

Unfortunately, our stay at the Hyatt Newport Beach fell far short of expectations. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the property is in serious need of attention and investment. The room was not clean — we noticed visible dirt and stains that made us uncomfortable settling in. We also experienced unhelpful service throughout our stay. Any time we made a request, whether for basic amenities or assistance with our accommodations, we were met with confusion or a lack of follow-through. It felt like the staff was either untrained or completely overwhelmed. The grounds and common areas were also in rough shape, with worn-down infrastructure, broken fixtures, and a general lack of upkeep. For a property carrying the Hyatt name — and in such a prime location — this was extremely disappointing. Would not recommend staying here until serious improvements are made. There are far better options in Newport Beach that offer the level of cleanliness, professionalism, and quality you’d expect at this price point. Read less

Great property, great location, friendly staff. We had a major problem with our breakfast, but they immediately made it right.

Got charged for parking even though we used the handicap parking. Yet valet is free? The closet was missing a door, room had a horrible smell and the water slide is only after check out and before check in.

This hotel had absolutely lousy beds and pillows. Every guest we talked with during our 4-day stay agreed, as everyone complained about how they slept. The facilities and location were all lovely. My family would happily go back to hang out at the pool and enjoy the grounds; we'd all prefer never to have to sleep in those beds again, and not with those pillows. The rooms also had a distinct mildewy smell, and the hotel is certainly showing its age, as doors and walls are scuffed and scratched. Read less
