“Beautiful Lobby, Disappointing Stay”

I stay almost exclusively at Marriott properties, and unfortunately, the Renaissance Palm Springs did not meet the standard I have come to expect from Marriott. The lobby and other public areas are attractive, but that impression did not extend to my guest room. The room smelled musty, the couch was visibly stained, and the bed and pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. The room also remained uncomfortably warm, and the hallways had a noticeable musty odor. Housekeeping was particularly disappointing. I had to request service three times, and my room was not cleaned at all for two days. When housekeeping did service the room, the work consisted primarily of replacing towels and wiping the counter. On another occasion, I declined service because I was uncomfortable with the condition and presentation of the person who arrived to clean the room and requested only fresh towels. I was also extremely uncomfortable after learning that a colleague staying at the hotel had encountered bedbugs. Although I did not personally find bedbugs in my room, knowing that another guest in our group had experienced the issue left me on alert and affected my ability to rest for the remainder of my stay. Temperature control throughout the property was inconsistent, including in some of the conference areas. Dining options were also quite limited, although the wings with date sauce and the Cobb salad were good. The restaurant staff were friendly and provided pleasant service. The greatest disconnect is between the attractive lobby and the condition of the guest rooms. A beautiful lobby cannot compensate for rooms that do not feel clean, comfortable, or properly maintained. I was genuinely disappointed and ready to leave by the end of my stay. Based on this experience, I would not stay at the Renaissance Palm Springs again. If it were my only lodging option in the area, I would choose not to make the trip.
