The hotel

You might feel like you’ve boarded a luxury cruise ship as you enter this distinctive boutique hotel, perched on the edge of the bay. The Argonaut’s original red brick walls, rich wood beams and ‘deck floors’ help to transport you back to San Francisco’s nautical heyday. At the same time, the plush décor provides all you need to settle in to your charming surrounds. Until, of course, those views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz lure you out to explore all that is Fisherman’s Wharf.

We stayed for 6 nights in a corner suite on the top floor. The suite was very large with a fantastic bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the sofa bed was better than average. The room, along with the whole hotel, was spotlessly clean and very professionally run. All of the staff were great and the concierge, Zakhida, was very helpful before my arrival in sorting out a really good itinerary of trips. The view from the room was of Alcatraz and the GG bridge. We enjoyed breakfast most mornings and had one dinner in the restaurant - all were very good, as were the staff. Free water is available and there is availability of coffee in the rooms. We asked for a kettle and tea bags and these were provided. The only negative for me was that someone used the street as a race track each night to rev their motorbike. Luckily it didn't go on beyond about 11pm but did go on all late afternoon and evening which was very annoying. Obviously not the hotel's fault and beyond their control. There are lots of restaurants and cafes close by, as well as shops, and transport. We enjoyed our stay and would like to thank the staff for their hard work and can recommend The Argonaut as a great place to stay. Read less

Loved the decor of The Argonaut Hotel. Located in an old Haslett Warehouse Building on Fisherman's Wharf. It's a perfect location when visiting SF. The public areas are beautifully decorated in a 'Jason and the Argonaut' theme ( a fantasy adventure story). The lounge area is warm and inviting, with a large fireplace and comfortable chairs. We had a bay view king room and from our room we could see Alcatraz Island. We had such great views of the bay and harbor, with a well appointed large room, with comfortable bed, and a very large mirror, made to look like a large porthole. Decor was navy and white (nautical), brick walls and iron beams continued the warehouse theme. There was a doorbell and lights on the door panel. For some reason, the room doors all opened out, rather than opening into the room. Nice coffeemaker in the room, but not great tasting coffee pods. Here are some minor negatives: The bathroom is a little small compared to the size of the room. Attention to the cleanliness of the toilet could have been better. Our room had a connecting door. Connecting doors have zero sound absorption and we could clearly hear guests in the adjoining room, just talking at a normal level. Lastly, there is no room for personal items in the mini bar. Great hotel. The location is perfect the staff is super friendly. They offer bottled water 💦 as much as you want. We love to stay hydrated so this was a huge perk for us. Highly recommend. Close to the Ghirardelli factory a huge plus Don’t miss the opportunity to be in the heart of the Warf.

Most hotels in San Francisco are around Union Square but the Argonaut being in Fisherman's Wharf was, for us, a much better area and an ideal location for seeing and doing everything in the city. There were many excellent cafes and restaurants and plenty of good shops both within a short walk. Alcatraz cruises, the Red and White Fleet Bay Cruise, the Sausalito ferry and the Big Bus hop-on-hop off and day tours were all within a few minutes' walk along one road. For this alone, I would highly recommend this hotel. It was a large hotel but never felt busy, it was spotless, and the staff were all lovely. We booked a king room with bay view and were on floor 3 overlooking Alcatraz for our 6 nights. It was a good size room with massive bed, sofa, coffee table, coffee machine, large TV, mini bar, set of drawers and a wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and a good size safe. There were plenty of charging points for plugs or USB and a specific mobile phone charger that you just lay your phone on. The bathroom was quite small but had a bath with shower and a good size sink with large mirror. The water pressure wasn't brilliant but was usable, and the shower was only from the ceiling so there was no handheld shower which was a bit awkward for me. Overall, this hotel more than met our expectations and the location just blows it out of the park. Read less

We had an amazing stay at the Argonaut Hotel. Before we even arrived, I spent a few days in a row spealing with the Hotel's amazing Concierge Zakhida. I told her neither myself nor my partner had ever been to SF and she quickly curated an amazing experience for us. Her restaurant recommendations were spot on, and we could not have been happier. Zakhida's dedication and knowledge makes her an invaluable asset. The room was comfy and well appointed and the breakfast simply delicious. The location of the Hotel is also extremely convenient. All this aside, the people are what give this property the winning edge. We will be back! Natalie and Nykki Read less
