The hotel

It’s said that life in San Francisco is best lived on the waterfront. Where better to sample it than at Hotel Zoe, a stroll from Pier 39 and the bay. Wander out and you’ll stumble upon many fabulous shops and eateries, or pop into the hotel’s Italian trattoria for homemade crab ravioli or roasted sea bass. They serve a delicious breakfast too - why not grab a table on the sidewalk and watch as Mason Street comes to life?

Stayed 4 nights in July. Excellent stay. Handy for Fishermans Wharf and sightseeing around the city. Hotel very comfortable, rooms good size and clean with plenty of towels. Staff very friendly and helpful. Check in straight forward and ensured rooms close together. Would stay again and would recommend.

I just checked in, and the hotel looks nothing like the pictures. After paying for my reservation, I went up to the room and was shocked by how misleading the photos were. I returned to the front desk to cancel, but they said they couldn’t help because I booked through a third party. To make matters worse, there was only one staff member at the front desk, clearly overwhelmed, and it took a very long time to be assisted. I asked to speak with a manager, and was told there is no manager on duty — which is honestly unbelievable. A hotel should always have someone in charge, especially to assist guests with urgent concerns. Expedia has tried to help, but I’m stuck in a hotel I don’t feel comfortable staying in. This has been a frustrating and disappointing experience. Definitely not recommended. Read less

Hotel Zoe is in a great location—close to major tourist attractions and a nearby Trader Joe’s for groceries and water. However, the hotel itself is just average. While the rooms were fine, the stairwell had a strong garbage odor, which gave a poor impression of cleanliness overall. Staff interactions were underwhelming. During check-in, when asking basic questions, and at check-out, the service felt cold and uninviting. The biggest issue was the unexpected "Guest Amenities Fee" of $136 for a 3-night stay, which was only disclosed at check-in. We booked through a third-party site (T-Mobile Travel), and unlike other hotels in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, this fee was not clearly stated during the booking process. The amenities covered by this fee were minimal and didn’t justify the cost. After our stay, I saw that other reviewers had similar complaints about this practice. Tip for travelers: Be prepared for this significant extra charge at Hotel Zoe—even if it’s not shown upfront while booking through third-party sites. It’s worth factoring into your total cost when comparing hotels in the area. Read less

I have stayed there before with my family and it is an amazing hotel, staff and location! The hotel is so comfortable, clean and accommodating with small perks like complementary coffee in the morning and making s’mores by the fireside in the evening. The staff are all so friendly and so accommodating. I wanted to extend a special thank you to Jose. My mother was sick and had to be rushed to the hospital and he helped every step of the way…from extending our room, letting us keep the same room, helping in anyway he can and asking how she was doing the next day. Thank you Jose for your excellent customer service! Read less
