Riu Plaza Fishermans Wharf

San Francisco, California

Star rating

The hotel

Just a pleasant stroll from the shops and entertainment at Pier 39, and the ferry to Alcatraz, the Riu Plaza Fisherman’s Wharf makes a stellar base to explore from. The hotel’s relaxed and friendly vibe is ideal after a day’s dim sum dining, cable car riding and selfie snapping. Your room is suitably airy and comfortable, you can kick back on the sun terrace by the outdoor heated pool, and, perhaps our favourite part, you can hangout by a crackling fire pit in the outdoor living area.

We stayed at the Riu for several nights over Fourth of July weekend. The staff was super friendly, helpful, and professional. The hotel was clean and well kept. The breakfast buffet had everything you could want and saved us at least $50 a morning; the line does get long after 8:30 but moves very fast. The location is fantastic and we were able to… Read more

The breakfast buffet had everything you could want and saved us at least $50 a morning; the line does get long after 8:30 but moves very fast. The location is fantastic and we were able to walk to all of the piers for eating, shopping, and to catch ferries. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Read less

We were looking for a location that was nice and easy to get to from most of the tourist areas in San Francisco. The staff were delightful, and the breakfast buffet was well worth it, making it a highlight each day. Highly recommended Riu. We stayed at Riu Palace Maspolomas, our first time in a Riu Hotel, and were very pleased. Riu Plaza did not disappoint. Read less

We stayed at this hotel over the 4th of July. The pictures gave us the impression that the hotel was on the smaller side but it’s not. There are over 500 rooms in this hotel! That said, the service was great and the cleanliness superb. My one issue was that parking was $60 per night. That’s just nuts, especially when you are a guest of the hotel. If they charged $30 a night I would grudgingly pay it, but $60 feels like you’re being taking advantage of. Now I’m sure people at the hotel would say that it’s fair market value compared to other parking alternatives in the area. That would be incorrect. We saw private garages in the area for $20 per night. In fact, at the time of writing this, I looked up parking on Parkopedia (a site I wish I had discovered prior to our visit) and found overnight parking in the exact same area for $20 per night. So while everything else at the hotel was great, the excessive parking fee made us feel as though we were being taken advantage of and ruined the overall experience. Read less

We stayed here after our Alaskan cruise and it was perfect. Breakfast was crowded, but they got everyone seared as quickly as possible. Amazing fruit at breakfast and that's important since that's all my toddler eats. The hotel was quiet and a perfect location to the sights. Great service. I believe Michelle was her name, who checked us in. She… Read more
