The hotel

Put yourself slap-bang in the middle of some of San Francisco’s most fashionable theatres, restaurants, and sights. The boutique Marker Hotel is a great base — and its energy matches its setting. It was built in 1910 but you can still see its ‘Beaux Arts’ beauty in the lobby’s floor-to-ceiling fireplace and grand marble staircase. The hotel’s anything but olde-worlde though, with little touches like WiFi, and a Hydration Station providing fruit and herb infused water on tap.

Where is it

In the Tenderloin/Lower Nob Hill area of San Francisco, near Union Square’s shopping, the theatre district, museums, and endless dining. The hotel is also close to the Financial District and Moscone Convention Center. Transfer time from San Francisco International airport: 15 minutes.

Deluxe Rooms with 1 king-size bed, 1 queen-size bed or 2 double beds, sleeping maximum 3 adults.

Junior Suites feature a living room and bedroom with 1 king-size bed and 1 queen-size sleeper sofa, sleeping maximum 4 adults.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Marker and using their creative event space. The staff was incredibly attentive and made the entire process seamless. The lobby had an energetic buzz, the decor was beautiful and Instagrammable, and the food was absolutely delicious. I cannot wait to come back for another visit!

I was disappointed with my recent stay. First, I couldn’t even enjoy the welcome drink because it’s only served between 4pm and 6pm — seriously? That feels more like a barrier than a benefit, making it difficult for guests to actually enjoy what’s offered. Even more concerning, when I was checking out early on August 15th, a very unsettling situation occurred. A man who was clearly not a guest entered the hotel, ignored the receptionist’s request for ID, walked into the lobby, and sat near the fireplace. Security was called, but the man resisted leaving and lingered for a long time. As a guest, I felt unsafe and worried he could have been armed. He eventually left, but it was a tense and frightening moment. For a hotel of this level, both guest experience and safety should be taken far more seriously. Read less

We had a very nice stay at the Marker but for sure the highlight of the hotel was the extra care of Blanca from the front desk at the hole time we’ve been at the Marker. What a lovely person!
