The hotel

Tenaya Lodge’s setting takes some beating — bordering the Sierra National Forest and set on 75 stunning acres, it’s surrounded by nature. The hotel has plenty of activities, including a choice of trails and a guided walk to a hidden waterfall. Grab your hiking boots, or maybe a mountain bike, and head out to explore. At the end of the day, take a dip in the outdoor pool, get a s’mores kit and sit around the outdoor fire pits, or grab your torch and head out on a night hike. First of all, if you aren't able to stay inside Yosemite park, this is the next best location. It is very close to the south entrance of the park. Pros: very convenient and easy. First of all, if you aren't able to stay inside Yosemite park, this is the next best location. It is very close to the south entrance of the park. Pros: very convenient and easy. Great location, good restaurant and deli (we only ate at Jackalope's and the deli; the pizza place was closed every time we tried to go), offered tours right at the hotel. We loved the free s'mores in the evening around the fire pit and also the live music. We did the all-day 360 tour offered by the hotel, and we had the BEST time. Ethan, our tour guide, was friendly, so knowledgable, funny and was the highlight of our trip. Cons: we only stayed at the cottages so don't know about the rooms in the hotel or the cabins. For the price we paid, and the website, we expected a higher end resort and a more authentic 'lodge'. If you've been to Great Wolf Lodge, then this is almost the same feel; not really authentic- more like a copy. Our cottage was old and not the cleanest. The air conditioner was really loud, so loud that we had to turn it off to talk or hear the TV. The bathrooms were old; the sink plunger just popped out while we were running the faucet. They had free bicycles to ride, but they were old. The one my daughter had was broken. We also paid $75 per person for the night stargazing tour where we looked at stars via a telescope. We expected a lot more- definitely not worth the money (maybe $25 per person?). All in all, Tenaya was convenient but not worth the price they charged, except for the tour. Read less

Our California friends recommended Tenaya Lodge to us when we asked about Yosemite. It's two miles from the south end of the park, and is a lovely property. We stayed in a regular king room for four nights, nice room but mattress was just okay and the barn door on the toilet/tub only was not ideal. Very thin walls, heard our neighbors at midnight and thought they were right outside our door. I requested room service every day and got a little shade from the employee checking us in, but at those rates that is my vacation splurge. I understand the environmental concerns, so we were careful with our towel use and recycled paper, etc. Restaurants were convenient and good, pricey of course but you are captive. We did take the shuttle down to the pizza place one night for a little break. Sat in the main area of the lodge and listened to a guitar player and sat by the fire. By all means take the Tenaya 360 tour, it's awesome (separate review). Keep in mind the park is the size of Rhode Island. You are "close", but it's still a curvy drive to the valley, and it will take you at least an hour. Read less

I couldn't get a reservation in Yosemite Valley, so I looked at the places outside of the national park. I couldn't get a reservation in Yosemite Valley, so I looked at the places outside of the national park. Tenaya was pricey, but looked so nice and is so close to the park that we bit the bullet and made a reservation for 3 nights. This was the best 3 nights of our national parks trips! What a beautiful resort, with all types of lodging. We chose to stay in the main lodge hotel. Our room was a long distance from the hub of activity, which was both good and bad. The room was secluded and quiet, but we felt like we were on a cruise ship walking the whole distance of the ship to get to the restaurant. Good for burning extra calories. The room was so spacious and modern, really nice! We even had a balcony! It was big enough for a circular table and 4 chairs. The king size bed and pillows were so comfortable! We slept well after being out in Yosemite all day. The lounge has comfortable seating and a beautiful fireplace that was always on. The pool/hot tub area was our favorite spot. We came back each day after being in Yosemite and relaxed in the hot tub to soothe our feet and joints, then relaxed in the lawn chairs or swam in the pool. The pool has a kid friendly area as well. In the evenings, they light the fire pits on the lawn and provide ingredients for s'mores. There are kids games and corn hole for playing on the lawn, as well. There are lots of activities available, but we spent the bulk of our time in the national park. The restaurant in the hotel is full service - bar, indoor seating, outdoor seating, breakfast buffet, etc. The menu is limited and pricey but the food and service was good. There are TVs on in the bar and a fireplace in the main dining area. There's a fire pit near the outdoor patio seating. I was told there's a pizza restaurant on the property but it's a 5 minute walk from the hotel. After all the walking in Yosemite, we didn't want another hike for dinner. The other food option is the little market store next to the restaurant with some fresh fruit, some frozen foods, and prepared, pre-packaged sandwiches, fruit cups, etc. You can pick up anything you need for lunch or snacking throughout the day. They even have fresh pastries, muffins, and coffee if you're not really a breakfast person. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome, from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. There are two small gift shops, if you're looking for clothing or trip mementos. This is more than a hotel. It's truly a resort. We loved staying here and would choose it again, even though it's very pricey. The price of the room was different each day, getting more expensive the closer we got to the weekend. There are also 5 different taxes and fees that added over $82 per day to our bill. So it's not cheap. But it's really nice and the only nice place we saw to stay this close to Yosemite's south entrance. Read less

We were extremely disappointed with this resort for the money. The rooms were a bit dated and the food was ok, but the biggest issue was the service. Everyone acts like you are an inconvenience. Service in the restaurant was poor also. The location is outside the park and overall was very overpriced. We stayed at many places on a family road trip and this was the worst value for money. Read less

Great hotel.Huge lobby, great restaurant, and a lot of things to do in the evenings.Even the back side overflow parking is landscaped. You may want to put the address in your navigation as the entrance is easy to drive by in the dark.Would recommend this place to everyone.
