The hotel

As the name suggests, Yosemite View Lodge is so close to the park that any closer and you'd actually be in it! It also straddles the banks of the Merced River on which river rafting is available in season (Apr-Jun) together with excellent fishing. Virgin Holidays guests will be spoilt for choice with not one, but three swimming pools to choose from, as well as five whirlpools and two restaurants. The great location and the view out the balcony prompted me to give 4 stars. I selected this hotel after seeing a ton of recommendations. The valley hotels were booked (and I wasn’t going to camp!) so the Yosemite View Lodge won our reservations. I went into it knowing it had below 4 stars and that the good about it was the location. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. We had a river view king room and it was very nice, very clean. The view from the balcony was unmatched and the star of the show. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable, but we were able to kind of sleep at least. The kitchenette was perfect to make breakfast so you can start your day a little quicker. The bathroom was large, the tub huge, and the water pressure was good. ( speaking of the tub, if you have any mobility issues, this tub is very high to step into) With zero traffic, you can be at the Arch Rock entrance in less than 4 minutes and the valley in 30 minutes. This is the closest hotel you can get, so it makes it worth it. Highly recommend. Go into it with basic expectations and you’ll probably be pleased. Definitely get the river view room. The other rooms look at the highway and mountain. Read less

The little things that could be so much better. I’ll keep it simple. At these price points you come to expect solid walls and working basic amenities. We experienced paper thin walls to the extent we could hear conversations in the adjoining rooms and every movement from the room above as well. In addition for a resort with no phone service at a minimum you are paying for working internet, which was never available to us over our 2 day stay. Too many users we were told. Really? Hiding behind the “it’s an outserviced internet provider” is a nice way to say “we are too cheap to provide basic service for our guests. Read less

I had a great room with a balcony w/river view -- we saw a buck having a drink in the morning. The hotel is very clean and located practically in walking distance to the park. Gift store is really cool and so is the restaurant -- get the burger.

I stayed at Yosemite View Lodge during a recent holiday and found it to be a practical and comfortable choice for visiting Yosemite National Park. The location is excellent — roughly a 30-minute drive to the park itself, with frequent shuttle services making the journey convenient and stress-free. The lodge is expansive, with generous parking and a number of pools and jacuzzis thoughtfully placed near each block of rooms, which I appreciated after long days of exploring. On-site dining was another pleasant surprise — a good variety of restaurants and surprisingly enjoyable food, all within walking distance. Check-in was efficient, and the overall setup is geared well for travelers who want ease and access. One highlight was the games room, which added a sense of community and fun to the property. It was well-equipped and seemed to naturally bring guests together in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere — a lovely touch for families and solo travelers alike. The views surrounding the property were lovely, offering a welcome sense of immersion in nature. That said, the rooms themselves could benefit from a refresh; the interiors felt a bit dated and could be elevated with more modern or refined touches. Additionally, carrying luggage up staircases might pose a challenge for some, as elevators are not available in all buildings. All in all, Yosemite View Lodge is a solid, family-friendly option for travelers who prioritize location, convenience, and amenities while visiting the park. With a few updates to the rooms, it could offer an even more memorable experience. Read less

Rooms were very clean and beds were amazing. So comfortable that we all slept amazingly. Facilities are excellent with shop, laundry, on site food and pools. Location is lovely and so handy for entering Yosemite at El Portal. Pizza is delicious. Have stayed before and would stay again without hesitation. Thoroughly recommend. Read less
