Recently back from this hotel and had a great experience.
Hotel
The hotel is very presented. We had a room on the 19th floor giving great views over the city. The room was sizeable with a large comfortable bed and great pillows. There also was a seatee and desk for working. There was ample wardrobe and drawer space, a small unstocked fridge and sizeable safe. Air con controls heat. We had a small issue with the heating but this was fixed when we raised it. There is a coffee maker in the room but no kettle. However you can use the coffee maker to just heat water for tea very effectively.
We had a bed and breakfast deal and I cannot speak highly enough of it. There was hot and cold products, fresh fruit, salmon, fresh breads etc. This was such a big plus for a city break.
A separate bathroom with two sinks was spacious and had a large shower with products. Towels were fluffy and large. The shower had great power. Temperature of the water at times was variable but that could be down to usage at peak times.
The room was cleaned to a very high standard on a daily basis.
Staff were all pleasant and helpful.
There is a city tourist tax which is paid locally and the hotel take a $250 deposit which is then returned to you.
Location
The hotel is literally located steps away from the Magnificent Mile. Also within walking distance are Navy Pier, the Beach, River walk etc making it an ideal location for a city break. There are loads of places to eat around the hotel.
We travelled to the hotel via taxi from O’Hare which we got just outside the airport. It cost circa £35 and took about an hour. We were travelling into the city at peak time. We took a taxi back from just outside the hotel which took less time but cost about £50 but it seemed that the meter was not on unlike the journey in. Advice is to check the price before travel.
You can also take the El train from Ohare on the blue line to Jackson and then change to red line and get off at Grand. From there the hotel is approximately 10 mins walk away. We opted for convenience over cost.
You can also use this train combination to visit the outlet stores which are located one stop from ohare. A free bus can then take you to the outlet.
The Riu Plaza Chicago was a great hotel and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it. We would certainly stay there again.
