I really don’t like to leave negative reviews and this is not as much of a negative review as it is just very shock and surprising. I stayed at the Marriott Maui Ocean club down next-door many times over the years. We would walk by the Hyatt and I would admire the pool and play areas for kids and want to stay here. So this time we did, it’s been several years since I’ve come, but I felt like I did not come to the same resort. There was a huge new restaurant above some type of marble black structure right next to the pool areas that really seemed obtrusive and very out of place. Was not adding or doing anything, actually it was taking away from the beauty of the pool and the tropical thing. Service was good, decor was beautiful. Furthermore there was little to no beach in front of the resort. I know this is not the fault of the resort, but for those looking for a beach experience, this is not the place.

Great Resort - Horrible Snorkeling experience through the Resort Concierge

We enjoyed the Maui resort, the penguins and the pool and the beach, but I would warn everyone against doing your snorkeling through the concierge desk. This past Sunday we scheduled a trip - 9:30 am - 2:00 pm - it was supposed to stop at 2 places - Turtle Town and the Crater - the best snorkeling spots in Maui - that's why we paid a HIGH premium for the trip. It stopped at neither of those places. Instead it did only one stop to the North of our resort on Kapalua beach. The captain said to everyone he would talk about going to another place - but he never did talk to us about it. It was very much a disappointment. We really wanted to see Turtles - it was my wife's dream. The trip cost over 200 dollars a person - that's right over 200 a piece. Don't do it. It was our last full day in Maui, so we couldn't schedule a better snorkeling for another time. I think maybe it was expensive for the "free" drinking - which we didn't care about at all - we really wanted good snorkeling. I would stay away from the activities/concierge desk at the resort, and just do things on your own, they overpriced and underwhelming.
Unfortunately I can't just email the resort directly, which I would have done, so I had to use trip advisor to voice my complaint.

Penguins....my favorite animal!
Jul 22, 2025Erin S
The beds were soft and comfortable. No view was a bad view from the balcony as you are either looking at the mountains or the ocean. The staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and housekeeping were friendly and kept the room nice and clean. Would recommend anyone staying here. The Penguins were my favorite part!!
Great North Maui Hotel with excellent service

The staff and service at the HR Maui were great! The location is close to the whalers village and a good home location to explore the rest of Maui. The check in to the hotel can get a little backed up, but the staff at check in are great and there to help ensure you have everything you need. During our stay we had a minor issue with our shower and…

The staff and service at the HR Maui were great! The location is close to the whalers village and a good home location to explore the rest of Maui. The check in to the hotel can get a little backed up, but the staff at check in are great and there to help ensure you have everything you need. During our stay we had a minor issue with our shower and had it taken care of right away. Additionally, two other staff members reached out to ensure the issue had been resolved and to ask if there was anything else needed.
