The Barn Rooms Are Great!

My kids loved the loft. The room was very clean and comfortable. The included breakfast was an awesome bonus.
Quaint historic farm where they've kept the old world feel.

Rooms were comfortable and clean, beds were good except for being a little too high. Rooms could use a chair for sitting, but otherwise all was good. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is quiet and convenient.
Huge disappointment

I hate to write negative reviews, but to witness the degradation of this Inn was truly depressing. We stayed in a Couples Cabin, with a private view of the Saco River. It had a porch and porch swing, which were the only redeeming quality of our stay. The curtains were dirty and the shades did not work. The windows are painted shut, not allowing any fresh air. The bed was hard and flat as a board and made sleeping very difficult. The toilet had an odd slant to it, leaving us to believe it was ready to rot through the floor. The cabin had an odd odor to it, which we believe was caused by the bathroom vent being blocked off. Almost everything is lacking upkeep - the pool is old and unappealing with an old and rotted hot tub (not in use), the lampposts are at a tilt and falling apart, the walk along the river is down right dangerous with rotting railings and broken steps. Breakfast is "pre-paid", but we only went 2 days out of our 4 days - the dining staff are very kind and they are definitely putting in the effort, but we did not find the food all that good. Whilst at breakfast one morning, one of the owners had his bare foot on an outside deck cushion while smoking and that put a damper on my appetite - I just sat on that cushion the night before. One afternoon we returned to find an employee (not the cleaning person) sitting on our private swing watching the river - which creeped me out. The front desk person had no personality and was not friendly at all. The cleaning person did not speak English very well, but he was very friendly and did his utmost to give us what we needed. We were there in prime summer vacation time and the place was almost empty. All in all, I do not recommend this place - the love and care is gone.

Good not Great

First let me preface this review by stating that I have been coming to Merrill Farm Inn since I was 19 and I'm in my 40's now. I experienced it with the original owners and after with the new owners. Like anything, there are changes both good and bad.

First let me preface this review by stating that I have been coming to Merrill Farm Inn since I was 19 and I'm in my 40's now. I experienced it with the original owners and after with the new owners. Like anything, there are changes both good and bad.
Lets start with the good: The function room is now being utilized. Such a beautiful room that previously just sat there not being used. Great to see it open. They kept the afternoon cookie time which has always been a nice touch. Staff is still very friendly.
Now the not so great: They changed the continental breakfast to sit-down, pre-paid breakfast. Doesn't even start until 8 which isn't good if you want to be up and out early. The menu is a set menu with sub-par food. Eggs were blah, pancakes flat and you couldn't change anything. And the service is beyond slow! I'd rather pay for breakfast with good food and good service. It would be nice to have a flexible menu or bring back a buffet style so you can choose what you want. What would really be great is if they brought back the homemade muffins and continental breakfast back in the room upstairs off of the check-in area like it used to be.
They have upgraded the furniture with way to modern looking pieces and just doesn't fit the decor. This place used to have such a country charm and hominess to it and that is just gone now. Some of the upgrades just seem half assed and look worse than leaving it the way it was.
The daily cleaning wasn't great. Didn't check TP and roll was empty. Had to ask for new towels.
They should be embarrassed to advertise they have a hot tub. Over half the jets don't work and there was mold in the one inside. The one by the pool is completely broken. With what they charge they should be able to upgrade both. Or just remove them completely.
The pool needs upgrading as well. Not properly cleaned or maintained. The stairs down to the river are an accident waiting to happen. Yes its all fine and dandy you have warning signs but do better. Fix them and make it safe.
I feel like the bare minimum is done. Just enough to look good on the outside. As long as they get their money. The original owners had pride in their property. May have not been the latest and greatest but at least it was maintained properly and cared for.
It is sad to see this place change for the worse in my opinion. I could pay the same amount somewhere else and have a cleaner pool or a hot tub that works and is well maintained.

Great family friendly Inn
Jul 20, 2025Lisa PKingston, New Hampshire
We had one of the larger rooms, great for families. 2 rooms with 4 beds and 2 baths. Staff is helpful and friendly. Rooms are neat and clean. Pool was great after a day of exploring. There was also a nice swingset for smaller children and 2 fire pits. Great family friendly place to stay. Overall excellent Inn.
