This could be the blueprint for any self-respecting Vermont hotel. Clapboard architecture painted in soothing shades. Rocking chairs lining the grand front porch. Elegant New England furnishings you’ll long to replicate back home. Kimpton Taconic Hotel gives the authentic Vermont experience. And its location throws you in the deep end too – right on Main Street in one of the state’s most historic and most charming villages, it’s got all those famous Taconic and Green Mountain moments in virtual touching distance, from leaf peeping, to skiing, to summer festivals. Creating a more homely hideaway than most hotels, they’ve included full American breakfasts, morning tea and coffee in the Living Room, and a social hour every evening. Although you also get perks you won’t find at home – like a heated outdoor pool and the exceptional farm-to-fork fare of The Copper Grouse tavern.

GREAT PLACE TO STAY

Comfortable/large rooms-great decor. We had a delicious breakfast outside on the front porch. Staff was helpful and you get tickets to Hildene with your room. My only comments would be that the lighting in the bathroom could be better. I had trouble seeing how to apply my make up. There was no freezer in the frig and we had leftovers from dinner…

My only comments would be that the lighting in the bathroom could be better. I had trouble seeing how to apply my make up. There was no freezer in the frig and we had leftovers from dinner we wanted to save. I brought my freezer pack down to the desk to see if they could store it but they said they did not have a freezer.

Great Choice for a Summer Stay

The hotel is a newer property that has public space elements that resemble a New England country inn — a front porch with rocking chairs facing Main Street, library-ish lobby spaces. The rooms, though, are modern construction - clean, well-maintained, well-ventilated. They most closely resemble rooms you might find at an office park Renaissance than at a Vermont country inn (or an urban Kimpton for that matter). But we preferred it that way — what this hotel lacks in authenticity it more than makes up for in cleanliness and competence. The A/C worked well (we checked in at the tail end of a June heat wave). No problems with the WiFi. Consistently professional staff.
The biggest negative was probably the lack of surface space in the room - e.g. no desk. Our 2 Queen room was classified as “Mountain View” but the trees in the back of the property blocked any such view.
No coffeemakers in our room, but the morning coffee in the lobby was much better than average. No minibar (a plus, in my view) but the room had a mini-fridge.
Easy walk to the Equinox, if you have an event there - slight uphill grade, sidewalks available the entire way.

An average experience

First the positives.
The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean.
The staff were very patchy. Some were very helpful, others very unhelpful.
I was surprised to find no shuttle available at all one evening when the hotel was quiet and when this is included in the resort fee.
Another Wonderful Stay at the Kimpton Taconic – Perfect for a Family Ski Trip!

I had another lovely stay at the Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester, VT. This was my second time staying with my family of four, plus a group of friends. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the pillows are soft — just the way I like them. The hotel’s location is excellent, with a short drive to both Stratton Mountain Resort and Bromley…

The on-site restaurant, The Copper Grouse, is a solid option for food, and the town of Manchester is so quaint, with charming shops, a supermarket, and plenty of great restaurants — all within walking distance from the hotel. We’ll definitely be back for our next skiing trip!

My husband and I and our small dog recently stayed here for three nights for the first time. It is a laid back hotel, and very welcoming. The rooms are compact, but beautifully appointed. The bathrooms have spacious walk in showers. We enjoyed the social hour each night sitting in front of the roaring wood fire, and chatting with other guests. The Copper Grouse restaurant off the lobby was an excellent and delicious place to eat, with a great staff. Manchester is a lovely historic and scenic town and is filled with other highly rated places to dine as well. All in all, it was a great trip, and we will definitely be back!
