The hotel

Conrad New York Downtown is a statement hotel in a stunning location, overlooking the Hudson River from its spot in Lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City. As you step into its sky-scraping 15 storey lobby, it’s ready to wow: there’s the instant impact of its bold design; the multi-storey art installation by Sol LeWitt; the 24 hour fitness hub; and the sophisticated dining of ATRIO. But it does save some pleasures for higher floors. As you scale this all-suite hotel’s grand stairways, you reach more than 2,000 works of gallery worthy art; luxurious 2 room suites for all guests; and, the cherry on the top, a seasonal rooftop deck where small plates, ‘Prosecco & Ice Pop’ cocktails, and Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor views all vie for top billing.

Excellent experience. The staff were wonderful. Very professional and effortlessly empathetic. The location is terrific for seeing the 9/11 memorial, Freedom Tower, and catching the ferry to the Stature of Liberty. We recently spent the weekend at the Conrad to visit our son and daughter in law who live in NYC. I was hesitant to drive in the city to the hotel, we usually stay in Jersey CIty and take the path into the city. I found the drive to the hotel easy and painless, it is very close to the Holland Tunnel and we had no problem navigating our way to the hotel. Upon our arrival we were immediately greeted by bell and valet services. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and my daughter in laws birthday. My criteria for a good hotel is that it is a quiet room, one that cools well and has hot water for the shower. This hotel does all that and more. All the rooms are suites so there is plenty of room to spread out. The shower is excellent in terms of pressure and plenty of hot water. There was a glitch with a water leak in our room which was immediately addressed professionally and quickly by Mathew the hotel manager. He was kind enough to relocate us immediately to an even larger suite that made our weekend even more special. This hotel delivers on all counts and we have decided we will be staying there for every trip going forward. Thank you to the management and staff for making our so trip special. Read less

Overall, the experience was manageable, but one of the biggest flaws I’ve ever encountered during my stays at highly rated hotels was the restaurant service. Every time I had breakfast or dinner there, it felt like the staff were uncoordinated and at times incompetent. While the food itself was excellent, the service lacked attentiveness and professionalism—especially when it came to drinks. For example, I ordered a mocktail and a glass of champagne, but ended up waiting nearly 10 minutes for them to arrive. When they did, they were served in a rush, causing the mocktail to spill slightly. Later, I ordered a second glass of champagne which also took a long time. When we eventually decided to cancel it and leave, a staff member simply told us it was “on its way”—yet there was no indication it was actually being prepared. I understand this may sound like nitpicking, but I’ve never felt this let down by a hotel—especially one with such a high rating. Aside from these disappointing restaurant experiences, the rest of the hotel’s services were quite good. Read less

My family of 4 and our friends (family of 3) go to NYC every spring break and we stayed at the Conrad for the first time last spring. This review is long overdue but I had to write one today because we are planning to go back to NYC this summer and we decided to stay at the Conrad again. The service was amazing and the hotel and rooms were impeccable. We've stayed in different Hilton hotels in NYC but the Conrad exceeded all of our expectations. The rooms were large, the service was amazing, the rooms were clean and smelled great. Shout out to the housekeeping staff who were all super nice and accommodating when we needed a few extra things. The location is great near downtown too. We walked to the Brooklyn Bridge. There are many restaurants - fast and sit downs - close by. We ate at Zutto, a nearby Japanese restaurant, which was really great. Read less
