Built in the same decade as the Brooklyn Bridge, The Beekman had stiff competition when it came to architectural neighbours – but its glamour and grace granted it kudos with the building buffs of the 19th century – and today. This skyscraper’s kept its drama with its marble entrance, Persian rug-slung lobby, and Victorian balustrade-draped atrium, which stretches nine storeys skyward before being capped with a glass pyramid. It’s not just opulent in design though, with its ‘nothing’s-too-much-trouble’ service and dining scene mirroring its old-world splendour and new-world luxury. Two of Manhattan’s finest names are behind The Beekman’s restaurants: Tom Colicchio reinterprets old and new classics at Temple Court, while Keith McNally recreates French brasserie elegance at Augustine. Or you could join the socialites (and sometimes celebs) at The Alley Cat for cocktails and Japanese Izakaya comfort food.

“Terrible experience, no sleep had”

We have stayed before and loved the location. The hotel has wonderful character but on our first stay we were given a room where it was close to the bar that is downstairs. The whole middle of the hotel is open and the sound travelled up from the bar which is open until late and it disrupted our sleep. Unfortunately we shouldn’t have returned but we have and it’s a total disaster! The hotel has a function room which is rented for parties. VERY LOUD PARTIES ALL NIGHT LONG UNTIL 4am. When I went down to complain they offered another “sleep” room but there was no point as one of my kids was asleep and one was very much awake and I travelled alone with them so could not leave one sleeping alone in the room. It’s amazing to me that that level of music can play all night long without any care for other guests in the hotel who have paid a premium to be here. We were offered Hyatt points but that’s like a voucher which I simply won’t use. If a guest was making high levels of noise then they would be asked to keep it down and be considerate to other guests but when the hotel choose to make money from an all night rave in their basement then it’s a totally fine thing to do to disrupt a whole hotel full of paying guests. Not only is there loud music there are people outside on the street from the party making a lot of noise. We were offered earplugs but don’t be fooled, this made no difference. Not a single bit of sleep was had by two people in my family and one being a 10year old child. We had to leave at 5.30am to get a flight back to london so it’s a long day of travel on no sleep at all. How is this fair? They charge you an amenities fee for things like WiFi but they won’t give money back for a party that I had no part in but they are making money from? THIS HOTEL DOES NOT VALUE ITS GUESTS. WE WERE NOT INFORMED BEFORE OUR STAY SO WE COULD NOT MAKE A DECISION TO CHAMGE HOTELS. WE WOUKD NEVER OF BOOKED A PLACE WHERE PARTIES LIKE THIS ARE ALLOWED WHEN WE ARE STAYING WITH OUR CHILDREN. Very disappointing and a shame to end our trip here on such a bad note. I’d like to think that the hotel would be able to see past the money it’s making on renting out the space and put some rules in place for a sensible end time to the music. But it’s thinking with dollar signs so that’s never going to happen.

Should you be looking for an experience that transports you immediately to feel like you are on a holiday this is the place to be. It has a great vibe with incredible decor . The facilities are fabulous with a great gym on 2 floors. The concierge ,reception and doormen are warm, knowledgeable and are taken care of.
