The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt

Financial District, New York

Star rating

The hotel

Built in the same decade as the Brooklyn Bridge, The Beekman had stiff competition when it came to architectural neighbours – but its glamour and grace granted it kudos with the building buffs of the 19th century – and today. This skyscraper’s kept its drama with its marble entrance, Persian rug-slung lobby, and Victorian balustrade-draped atrium, which stretches nine storeys skyward before being capped with a glass pyramid. It’s not just opulent in design though, with its ‘nothing’s-too-much-trouble’ service and dining scene mirroring its old-world splendour and new-world luxury. Two of Manhattan’s finest names are behind The Beekman’s restaurants: Tom Colicchio reinterprets old and new classics at Temple Court, while Keith McNally recreates French brasserie elegance at Augustine. Or you could join the socialites (and sometimes celebs) at The Alley Cat for cocktails and Japanese Izakaya comfort food.

Poor front desk experience will likely leave a taste in my mouth and prevent me from ever staying at this hotel again. It’s a shame because the building is beautiful and it’s in an ideal location for visiting NYC

Such a GREAT property! The second time we stayed and it A True Gem – Consistently Exceptional! We recently stayed at this property for the second time, and it was just as outstanding as our first visit. This time, we brought friends along — and they were equally impressed! A heartfelt thank you to Nick Longobardi and the Temple Court team for going above and beyond. After a long travel day, the kitchen had already closed for over 30 minutes, but they still fired up the grill to make me a delicious burger and potatoes. That kind of service is rare — and deeply appreciated. Every aspect of the stay was exceptional. We originally booked through Amex Travel on their recommendation, and they absolutely nailed it. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. Special shout-out to Gordon and Matthew at the door — especially Gordon, who walked my girlfriend around to safely meet her Uber on the other side of the hotel. That’s next-level hospitality. We dined daily in the courtyard restaurant, and not once were we disappointed. Perfect food. Impeccable service. Zero pretense. This property truly is a hidden gem. Highly recommend — and we’ll absolutely be back again. Read less

Fun experience! We loved the ambiance of the hotel and the food in the bar room was amazing. We were there for my husband's birthday and they went the extra mile and had a bottle of champagne set up for the occasion. It's details like that which go a long way into making a stay feel special

Great hotel, well situated in downtown Manhattan. Cool vibe, with attentive and caring staff. Rooms are spacious and well kept. Highly recommend grabbing an expertly made cocktail at the bar and taking the time to enjoy the weekend jazz brunch.

This is an absolute gem of a hotel. Full of beautiful original architecture and finished, but also very clean and up to date. And with just a short walk to the subway in the financial district, you can’t beat the location.
