We travel down by Amtrak train from Rochester, NY and arrive at Penn Station which is an easy 20 min walk away or a short cab/Uber to The Civilian. Hotel is brand new, has great staff and a fab hot breakfast buffet (eggs, bacon, sausage etc) in a spacious dining room for a great price. Rooms are spotless and compact, idea for couples like us who want to spend most of our time out and about in a central location to see some Broadway shows and dinners at night and museums (The Met) during the day. A superb, affordable hotel in a great location just a block from Times Square. The staff were superb, always on hand and willing to help. I had a 3pm check in and arrived at 2.15pm and they got me straight into the room. They have a really nice rooftop bar and a cocktail room. I will definitely be staying here again

My college age son and I decided to hit up the Big Apple in January. The Civilian was wonderful for many reasons: 1. It was affordable 2. It was clean 3. It was attractive 4. Everyone who worked there was really nice and helpful (shout out to Daniel, Jesus, and a nice young woman who wore a denim jump suit with cool gold buttons) 5. It was well… Read more

Everyone who worked there was really nice and helpful (shout out to Daniel, Jesus, and a nice young woman who wore a denim jump suit with cool gold buttons) 5. It was well designed. Even though the rooms were small, they were incredibly functional. 6. They gave me free coffee every morning and a place to sit with my laptop. 7. They were in the middle of the action. You could walk to and from all of the broadway shows quickly and safely. Times Square was just a few blocks away, and you could easily walk to Rockefeller Center. All things considered, they were the best bang for the buck that I have ever seen in NYC. This was a trip we will always remember . . . and the Civilian was one of the best parts! Read less

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Jesus, who gave us some great restaurant recommendations. He also upgraded our room to a spacious double. The room was well appointed and clean. We were on the 22nd floor and had a great view of the Hudson. I also really appreciated the hydration stations; it made it very easy to stay hydrated. We traveled to see a play, and Civilian was only 3 minutes away on foot. We also walked to Central Park and the Met. Everything we wanted to see was within walking distance. Overall, we had a great time, and I would definitely stay at Civilian again. Read less
