For all business travelers, it's important to know that this is a party hotel. If you're visiting New York on business, I would not recommend staying here.
Unfortunately, I had a challenging experience from start to finish. I've already shared my feedback internally with my company, as well as with Navan, and recommended that your hotel no longer be listed as a preferred option for colleagues traveling to New York for business.
My first night was on a Monday in one of the front-facing rooms on the third floor. Unfortunately, the noise from the nightclub next door was incredibly loud until approximately 4:30 a.m., which was especially surprising for a Monday night. The music and street noise were so overwhelming that I had to wear ear plugs and play white noise at full volume on my phone throughout the night just to make it somewhat tolerable. It was nice that the hotel anticipated this noise and left ear plugs in the rooms. Needless to say, I got very little sleep.
Unfortunately, my second night was even more disruptive. At approximately 4am, the fire alarm went off in my room (and I believe throughout at least the third floor). It was so loud that I immediately jumped out of bed and called the front desk to understand what was happening. I was told there was no fire, which was certainly a relief. However, what disappointed me most wasn't the false alarm itself; it was the response.
There was no acknowledgment of the inconvenience, no apology, and no empathy for guests who had just been abruptly awakened in the middle of the night. I even mentioned to the front desk associate that a simple, "I'm so sorry this happened, and I'm sorry this woke you up," would have gone a long way.
About 15 minutes later, just as I was beginning to fall back asleep, a hotel-wide announcement came over the PA system confirming there was no fire. While I understand the need to communicate with guests, it further disrupted everyone's sleep.
I travel frequently for work and rarely, if ever, submit complaints following a hotel stay. I understand that some situations (such as a false fire alarm) are outside of a hotel's control. However, the combination of the excessive nightclub noise on the first night, followed by the fire alarm and lack of empathy from the front desk on the second, made for a very disappointing experience.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel to business travelers who need a quiet place to rest before an important workday. I hope this feedback is helpful for future folks in the city for work!
