I have been a loyal Hilton brand traveler for over 12 years and this location is top notch! The rooms are a decent size for Manhattan and very clean. The front desk crew is attentive and caring. Also, I was greeted by Lynn for the Hilton Grand Vacations talk (which is always a good deal) and she went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care… Read more

We’d read that elevator wasn’t working but the review was old so we’d thought must be fixed- NO one of three was non functional our entire 8 night stay. 33 floors, 20 rooms per floor and 2 elevators that had to be shared with housekeeping and maintenance both who could bypass us lowly guests with their special key fobs(and they did). Thankfully from our 9th floor room we could and did walk down and even up a few times. Nobody ever questioned us which is I suppose why one night we found a strange man wandering our hallway…..real security (NOT). Then there was the day only one elevator worked. A matinee day so that was fun(NOT). Also the night we returned to our 60degree room(teens outside). 2hrs later maintenance who’d been telling us his entire life story and wanting advise on his next move finally at 1am declared he could not fix the problem. We were given a space heater that thankfully worked well enough to keep us comfortable in the main room if not the bathroom. Next day maintenance in and out sever times for hours all day but still answers. Spent entire dinner break with nice maintenance man who talk about every sport team, his 3 kids and what they played he promised a note explaining what had been done and a game plan. No note, no plan just our space heater(a very good one at least). We were promised extra points(got 5k pretty minimum and a credit for some of the stay(got nothing) Place is extremely well located and front staff cares but not as much clean nor as good as a Hilton is expected to be. Location was excellent for us near many of our favorite places. Staff for the most part was kind and helpful. Unfortunately the problems we encountered went beyond acceptable and the staff just didn’t seem able to help. We’d read that the elevators were a nightmare but since the reviews were older we’d believed it had been resolved. They hadn’t. For the entire 8 nights we were there only two of the three elevators were working. That is except for the day only one worked. That’s two for the entire place. 34 floors with about 20 rooms per floor! It might have worked if the entire housekeeping and maintenance staff weren’t also using the same two and hogging them up with their supplies and special keys to bypass floors. It was horrible. Luckily we were on the 9th floor so walking down was possible up, not so much. Then on our 5th night we came back to a 60 degree room( it was teens outside). They sent up maintenance who spent 2 hours playing with the system(till 1am) before giving up. The offer was made to switch rooms but we’d settled in for the week and it was 1am. They sent up a space heater that did work well in the main room, not the bathroom but it kept it comfortable. People were in and out the following day each with a different reason for the problem. Days 6,7,8 we spent with the space heater. They’d told us they refund a nights charge which never happened and give us points. They gave us 5000. Our final night we got back at about 10 and found a strange guy wandering our floor. Theory is you couldn’t use the elevator without a key but he either did or he walked up. When questioned he headed for the stairs and left. Better security definitely needed! Would we go back??? Maybe- if the price was great since the location, housekeeping, front staff were good but this place needs some big time help as well as updating to the rooms to achieve Hilton level quality. The elevators are awful. Of the three, one was out of service and had been since before we arrived for a one week stay. Two elevators for 31 floors was too much to cope resulting in lines of waiting guests for up to 20 minutes each time you wanted to use the lifts. What amplifies this problem is the fact that housekeeping also use the lifts through the day which holds things up even more. You can watch the lift hold at leves for long periods of time before it moves and it then travels to floor “SC” which is the basement where housekeeping and administration is. Guests and ourselves included ended up using the fire stairs as it was quicker but having to climb 18 floors wear pretty thin pretty quick. The elevators also have a permanent sign to advise guests that there are delays with elevators during peak periods of between 8-10am and 3-8pm (or something close to those hours). On arrival we were also told the coffee machine was out of order, having only recently been fixed but again broken by a hotel guest. There is a coffee machine in the room however. The room was clean and the size you’d expect for New York standards, we couldn’t all move about in the room at the same time. The in-room safe did not work. There is very limited storage, we could not unpack and had to town our suitcases each day to get out clothing. There is a tiny hanging cupboard that could only fit our coats. The hotel has a laundry with two washing machines and two driers. I wanted to use coins instead of paying by card so I had to navigate the lifts again (and wait for 15 minutes) to the front desk where the staff did not appear happy to meet my request for some change. They also only had $2 in quarters (the machines are $4 each). You’d think I was asking for a room upgrade.. I was also told they had run out of washing powder so I had to go to the local store to buy some. This hotel is not what you would expect from the Hilton brand, there is a sign in the room that says to let the hotel know if you have any concerns and they will make it right with the Hilton promise, however I don’t see how they could have made any of the above right at the time. On the positive the hotel is in a good location if you are a tourist . The beds were clean and comfortable. Kimberley on the front desk was lovely. Read less
