While numerous websites lists this as 4.5-5 stars, neither the room or service underscores that level. However this is a solid 4-star hotel with a lot of big pros. Pros: -Incredibly convenient. Subway station is literally a couple steps away right next door and can get you anywhere you need quickly. -While the rooms were dated, they were large by NY standards and well-maintained with a few refreshes in the TV, select furniture items, and thermostat (AC worked very well). -Outside noise of the city was nicely blocked out and we slept very well. -Beds and bedding are very comfortable. -Room service was excellent. Cons: -Service is very hit or miss, depending on who you get at the front desk or restaurant. I think this is less about the employees, but more telling of the general trend of these chain hotels understaffing and squeezing workers. -As stated above, rooms are dated and you can see this in the wear in the carpet, curtains, and some furniture items. -Not really a con, but the breakfast buffet had some to be desired for the Intercontinental brand. Ahmed was absolutely amazing and super accommodating to my friend and I during vacation. He also honors all Amex Platinum rewards and benefits without me asking!

I reserved this hotel for two nights for myself and my son. It was important for us to have two beds so I booked a premium room with two double beds. When I arrived at check in I was told they didn’t have a room with two beds so I was being upgraded to a suite with one bed and a sofa, and that I would have to move out of that room the next morning and into the room I booked. We had plans to be out all day and I was not excited to have to repack my things and leave them in a bag to get wrinkled all day while we were gone. I asked to stay in the same room the whole time. Any room, just didn’t want to move. Supposedly they had zero rooms that could accommodate us for two consecutive nights. The woman at the front desk accused me of just wanting to stay in the suite (that I did not book because it did not have two beds) for two nights! I really just didn’t want to move halfway thru my short trip. The manager indicated people had extended their stays - so someone extended their stay into the room I booked but I could not stay in any room in the hotel for two consecutive nights because other people had them booked the next night? They offered no discount, no additional anything, and barely an apology. Meanwhile the rate I paid was almost twice as much as the rate of a same day booking that day. I do understand that things happen, but this was handled very poorly and not at all in line with the hotel’s claim to be a 5 star hotel. No 5 star hotel would just have a “sorry too bad” approach to not having the reserved room available and then forcing a customer to move halfway through the trip! Won’t be back. Read less

We stayed here a few years ago several times, but were disappointed this time- especially at $450 per night. The $40 amenity fee is ridiculous, and the daily $30 credit is practically useless. You can’t use it for breakfast, and the drinks in the bar are expensive $12 for a bottle of water. It’s very confusing how these fees are applied. You must… Read more

You can’t use it for breakfast, and the drinks in the bar are expensive $12 for a bottle of water. It’s very confusing how these fees are applied. You must use the $30 each day- or it expires. We did appreciate an early 11:30am checkin and a spotless room. We were in town for the US Open and used the subway and Shake Shack next door. However, the area surrounding the hotel has drastically declined. It’s dirty, loud, and seems unsafe. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t stay here again- so many other choices that are better. Read less
