Lotte New York Palace

Midtown, New York

Star rating

The hotel

Railroad magnate Henry Villard's 19th-century mansions were combined with a sleek tower to create one of the city's best hotels. It's a place where the staff greet you as if they have known you all their lives, and nothing is too much trouble. The location is one of the best in Manhattan, right in the middle of Midtown, but hidden away in a gated courtyard. There's dining options suited to all at the Lotte New York Palace, from luxury brunch to baked goods, whatever you opt for you'll be in for a treat. Enjoy handmade cocktails in one of Manhattan's most popular bars, Trouble's Trust, or relax in 19th century-style surroundings in Rarities - either make for the perfect post-day-in-the-city tipples.

This property is absolutely enchanting. The guilded lobby is reminiscent of the splendor of the 1800s. The view from our room of St. Patrick’s Cathedral made me get up in the middle of the night to look out the window because it was so magnificent. The bellman who brought up our luggage regaled us with fabulous tales. We loved the Lotte Palace!

Over the years, I have visited NYC many times and stayed in many hotels including in midtown, tribeca, soho, the meat packing district, and the lower east side. This is the first time I have been disappointed with a hotel in Manhattan. I stayed for a couple of nights to see some shows on Broadway and the location was convenient and the view from my room was fantastic. The service at the restaurant was good but breakfast was mediocre. The lobby is beautiful but the room felt a bit dated. Each room has two umbrellas “assigned” to it. I left the room at around 11am and turned on the green light requesting service. However, housekeeping did not service the room because they had come earlier and the do not disturb sign was on. I don’t know why they didn’t return a bit later to check on the room to see the request for the room to be serviced. On check out day, my flight wasn’t scheduled until the evening. I checked out, left my bags with the concierge and then asked the front desk if I could borrow an umbrella for a few hours as it was raining. I was told that the umbrellas were assigned to rooms and that since I had checked out, they could not loan me an umbrella. I also could not use the umbrellas that were “assigned” to my room. The staff suggested that I purchase an umbrella from the gift shop to use for the remaining half day of my trip. This lack of service is quite surprising for a luxury hotel. As I mentioned, I have stayed at multiple Manhattan hotels over the years and this is the first time I have been disappointed with a Manhattan hotel. I expected better and fortunately, there is a lot of choice in Manhattan for when I return. Read less

This is a hard review to write, but one worth mentioning. The hotel, quality, location, rooms, all fantastic. I am leaving this review because of the absolutely terrible experience I had with a lost macbook charger. On our second day, we returned to our room and my macbook charger was missing. The last location was plugged in over a trash, and my charging cable was neatly folded on top of the stand. Likely the charger was knocked into the trash and accidentally disposed of. The next experience ruined my trip. I called housekeeping, talked to the housekeeping manager. No help. I was transferred to the front desk, who transferred me to security. No help. I explained my situation no less than five times to different people, only after an hour+ had to leave to go to dinner - still with no solution. This was a simple mistake, and could have been a simple solution to replace or credit my invoice for the lost charger. Instead I was lost in a complex system, with no one thinking about or owning the issue and helping me find a solution. Read less

Most of the staff have been with the hotel for many, many years, and they go out of their way to make you feel at home, from the housekeeping staff, to the Gold Room bartenders and servers, to the front desk team. We stayed at the Lotte last week for a family event in the city and had an experience that was second to none. Everyone who we dealt with, from Reservations to check-in to the bar provided us with outstanding and personalized service. We worked with Ann Marie, Delmasi and Tamara in Reservations, all of whom were able to find 2 rooms for us. Each room had an amazing view of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Rockefeller Plaza and were extremely comfortable. When we checked in, Michael greeted us and was very welcoming, not to mention a good jokester as well. After our family party, we capped off the night at the hotel bar. I don’t remember their names unfortunately, but the two bartenders there were super friendly and made us the best martinis I can remember. I should also mention that parking is available in the garage next to the hotel with valet service, which made things so much easier and less stressful. Amazing time and experience overall that will definitely have us return next time we’re in the city. Read less
