“Avoid if you expect basic customer service”

Our experience with the RIU Plaza New York hotel was very disappointing. Our family had booked 3 nights at this hotel trough booking.com with a non-refundable policy. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen travel issues, we missed our original flight and contacted the hotel immediately to inform them we would arrive 1 day later. Instead of offering any flexibility or assistance, the staff at Riu Plaza New York were unfriendly and dismissive. They told us to deal with booking.com, while booking.com directed us to contact the hotel in the first place. In the end we where marked as a “no-show” and denied any possibility to adjust our reservation or receive a partial refund for the nights we could have stayed there. We weren’t asking for special treatment, only to be able to arrive 1 day later, but the lack of empathy, unhelpful attitude, and the unwillingness to help an internationally traveling family left us with a very negative impression. For a hotel in New York, which should be experienced in handling travellers’ issues, the rigid and unfriendly approach was unacceptable. I would NOT recommend Riu Plaza New York if you expect basic customer service, flexibility or support during your stay.

Great hotel right across street from Victoria station. The staff was very helpful and allowed us to check in early after a long, overnight flight. The breakfast was the best we had all week! Being across from the station made it easy to get anywhere. However, the neighborhood is very central and in walking distance to many sights. Over all, a wonderful and highly recommend this hotel to others.

This is a new hotel in midtown manhattan very close to Times Square. Plus. Very close to many subway lines. I used it for US open 2025 and it was perfectly positioned to take line 7. But the position is perfect also for any other line and any other borough, and for visiting Manhattan. Everything is quite new. Very good staff. Excellent breakfast. Minus. This is an hotel mainly conceived for organized travels. So in many occasion you find 100 and more people in the hall not able to speak a word in English and totally depending on their guide that has to scream at the top of his/her lungs. Poor soundproofing in the rooms. Insulation is far from being perfect. Zero design. It seems a Mallorca island summer hotel of 20 years ago positioned by mistake in midtown Manhattan. I suggest this hotel for the position but the price should be medium-low.
