The hotel

The Knickerbocker Hotel is a historic gem right in the middle of New York City's Times Square. Opened back in 1906, this luxury spot has been a go-to for celebrities and big names over the years. It's famous for its stunning Beaux-Arts architecture. After being closed for a while and going through some changes, it made a grand comeback in 2015 with a major renovation. Now, it offers modern comforts while keeping its old-school charm.

Perfect location; close to everything! Not your run-of-the-mill hotel. Elegant, sophisticated, super-nice staff. Great bartenders and terrific food. A little pricey, but worth every penny. I will quickly forget what I paid, but will long remember the great experience at the Knick.

I needed help with my airline reservation and Steph and Jay spent over an hour trying to get me sorted. Nothing was too much trouble. They also marked maps for me when I asked. They were most helpful.

At the restaurant Gania was most attentive at breakfast every morning and made our experience enjoyable, along with door staff, reception staff etc. There was always someone around to answer any questions we had. We look forward to returning to stay again! Highly recommend the hotel for the vibe but the central location. So close to all you need and would wish to explore! Read less

My wife and I just spent 3 nights at the Knickerbocker hotel. We were looking for a 5-star hotel in/near Times Square and the reviews were generally positive. Based on our stay, in my view, the hotel is OK but also have some notable shortcomings. Check-in: the lobby area is small and chaotic. We had to wait in line for about 15 minutes to check-in. When it was finally our turn, we were told "we are pleased to upgrade you from a Deluxe room to a Premier room" followed by "your assigned room has been cleaned but needs to be inspected, please stand to one side and wait." After another 10 minutes, we received our room keys. Room: We stayed in room 718 (it turns out, Premier rooms are the same as Deluxe rooms, only with exterior views). The room was clean, nicely furnished and appears new. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had excellent water pressure (in fact, the sink faucet had too much pressure, causing the water to spray out of the sink). The TV does not support any streaming services and there's no Nespresso (or similar) in the room. The window has an automated shade and sheers (no blackout shades/curtains, despite what the website claims). There's no turndown service. Breakfast: Our rate included breakfast (I think everyone that books directly with Leading Hotels of the World gets this benefit); the regular buffet cost is a steep $54 per person. The buffet was "fine" - no more, no less. It's similar to what one finds in a Marriott club lounge. On two mornings, our server was Gania, who was excellent. Dinner: We made a reservation for dinner at Charlie Palmer steakhouse (on the hotel's 4th floor) for Sunday night. We made the booking directly on the restaurant's website, which links to Open Table. When we arrived, we were told that the restaurant is closed on Sundays! The host apologized, said he didn't know why the website takes reservations for this day and said we could sit in the bar area and choose from a limited menu. Rooftop bar: We had drinks on the rooftop bar (which requires going down to the lobby and then back up to the rooftop). The setting is great, with nice views of the skyline. Unfortunately, the servers working in the bar area have no interest in actually serving. They all stand around the bar area and chat with each other. Not a 5-star experience by any means. Location: The hotel is literally next door to the 42nd Street/Times Square subway stop. In terms of convenience, the location is fantastic. The downside is that you're in Times Square which means it's always loud and crowded. Specifically, a person playing drum buckets was stationed immediately outside the the hotel and played until 11pm every night (despite a 10pm noise ordinance). Also, there is a super bright billboard across the street from the hotel that shines directly into any room facing Broadway. Even with the room shade down, light comes into the room which made it difficult to sleep (in the end, we asked the hotel to put electrical tape all around the shade to keep out the light). The hotel is strong potential but, for us, did not deliver a true 5-star experience. Read less

The staff are amazing and go out of their way to help you with a smile on their faces. I would like to mention Paulo who helped us at a very sressful time when our flights got cancelled and she was professional and showed great empathy to ease our stress, thankyou and you are a great asset to the Knickerbocker. Also would like to mention Marcello and Sayem for helping with our luggage and arrange airport transport for us to go back home, especically Sayem when he came out of his way to help bring our luggage in when the yellow cab dropped us off away from the hotel on the first day of arriving at the Knickerbocker, Sayem gave a reassurance that we had booked the right hotel as his customer service was excellent.
