We recently had a 7 night stay here. Our room was located on the 22nd floor, and had a great view. The room itself was absolutely tiny, and quite dated. There are no hot drink facilities and there is no mini fridge in room, though there is an ice dispenser and vending machine located on the floor, so this was adequate in place of a fridge. Though water from the vending machine is outrageously expensive. The room had a very small, old television, but this did have a good selection of channels available. The windows were quite drafty - which was quite irritating when it was windy, as although it wasn't cold at the time of our visit, the noise was annoying. There is no soundproofing in the rooms and you can hear full conversations from the next room/hallway. Overall the room was extremely basic and no frills but fine for us as we didn't spend a lot of time in it.
We got married whilst on this trip to NYC so this was a special holiday for us. Unfortunately on the morning of our wedding, we had an issue with our safe, which had broken and would not open. This was very stressful for us as we had our marriage license, rings and other important things locked inside. I explained the situation to the receptionist, who sent security along in a very timely manner. Unfortunately the security man could not fix the issue and had to get a locksmith to resolve it. I again explained the urgency of the situation as we had to leave for our wedding immediately. The locksmith arrived very quickly along with the ?hotel manager, however they could not enter the room without security so they stood outside our room for about 20-25 minutes, repeatedly calling security to ask someone to attend quickly. Eventually another security guard came and the locksmith was able to open and fix the safe within 5 minutes - he saved the day and we were very greatful and were able to leave for our wedding just in the nick of time!! Although we understand that these things happen and are outwith anyone's control, I do feel the hotel missed an opportunity here to apologise for the inconvenience or just make our stay a bit more memorable and special as they never offered any sort of token to make up for this issue or to mark a special occasion for us - a room upgrade, or a drink in one of the restaurants would have been a really easy and meaningful gesture given the situation. Little touches such as this are what really make a place stand out.
The staff, especially the cleaning staff, were all very friendly and pleasant, and our room was always cleaned to a good standard, with fresh towels always supplied.
We had a late flight home on the day of our check out so stored our bags, we had 2 suitcases and 2 small backpacks, and we had to pay $20 for this ($5 a piece). This is the only hotel I have ever stayed in where you have to pay to store your luggage and I did feel this was a let down, especially considering the hotel charges a $46 per night resort fee just for the use of WiFi (and for the gym....which we didn't wish to use).
We went to the attached Tik Tok diner once for breakfast - I wouldnt reccomend this. It was expensive, and on several occasions we overheard the staff there specifically speaking to customers about tips - which we found in bad taste, though this wasn't the only place we encountered this in NYC. A top tip would be to visit some of the amazing local deli's for breakfast/lunch instead of diners - food just as good, if not better, and much more reasonably priced.
Overall we had an ok stay, the hotel was conveniently located, but we probably wouldnt return.
