Fantastic hotel in an area where hotels are hard to find. Great service, great room, good vibe, great valet parking promotion, and good food at the adjacent restaurant, Take Care. Luis S. at reception may have been the nicest, kindest person I have ever had check me into a hotel. He went above and beyond in every way possible. Throughout my stay, he would acknowledge me as I walked by and then helped me get my luggage from storage later in the day after I checked out. I can’t say enough nice things about him. Sonesta should be proud to have him as an employee. Additionally, another employee, David was very kind and accommodating during my stay. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable - I couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Read less

Wonderful weekend stay at this hotel. The suites are very comfortable for a family needing more space; I found staff excellent - responsive, polite, and very professional. There were some minor hiccups with the room, some confusion over a delivered package, and one day where only one elevator worked (of two), but the hotel promptly addressed all issues. Rooms were clean and modern. Our suite had a useful kitchenette but no silverware FYI. Unsure how any complimentary water/snacks work - I just read the previous reviews and connected what I read with some memory of seeing some guests being able to retrieve items out of a cabinet near the front desk. (We were never offered anything - maybe it’s related to hotel status). Nice waiting area, though small. Walking distance to Grand Central (10-15 min). Apparently this used to be an Affinia and then Sonesta bought the property a few years ago. I would definitely stay again on business or for personal travel. Read less

Shelborne Sonesta  Positives:  Great location Massive rooms  Great views of the Empire State building  Health centre  Rooftop bar  Great breakfast in the cafe/restaurant attached.  Close to Grand Central Station Review:  The staff are welcoming and on the whole friendly. I'm not sure if it's a New York thing but saying good morning as you pass reception was not a thing, unlike when we stayed in the Florida Sonesta where we always had a positive interaction/ welcome from the staff no matter what time of day. The staff explained that we could have X2 items free from the fridge each day so X2 bottles of water which meant 2 guests went without. If you wanted extra it was an extra $5 each item. I understand if we booked for 2 people but we booked for X4.  They welcomed us and they confirmed and checked in 4 people, however when we arrived the room after travelling from UK we had X1 double bed and a sofa for 4 of us 😮 there was 3 sets of towels (one set short) 2 cup for hot drinks.   We went down to the desk and asked if they could make up the sofa bed for the kids and if we could have another set of towels and also X2 more cups.  We went out for 2 hours and when we returned the sofa was still a sofa and the bedding was sat on the sofa for us to make up at 9:30pm at night (see images). We asked about just dumping the bedding on the sofa and they said they were busy.  Not exactly the first night we had imagined having to make up a bed for our kids to sleep on.  They sofa bed was not the most comfortable and to be honest once down there was no where to sit as a family as the sofa was now a bed.  The rooms are a great size and there is plenty of space, the bathroom was a good size too.  The bath did not have a plug and we had to ask for one, the staff reported that they knew there wasn't a plug as if this was something that needed to be requested. The experience on the whole was mixed.  This is a 3.5 star hotel max and is great for 2 people just exploring the city. If you are a family of 4 you will need 2 rooms as the sofa bed is not comfy enough for adults or teen children.  I don't think we would stay here again as a family which is a shame.  Read less
