My family loved it! The entire resort is beautiful. So much to do, see and experience. Staff was helpful. Looking forward to going again.
Pleasant property, great location!

Stayed in a garden view room, 1st floor, overlooking duck pond. That was lucky - many are overlooking the walkway, but we did love the duck pond! Stayed in a garden view room, 1st floor, overlooking duck pond. That was lucky - many are overlooking the walkway, but we did love the duck pond! And the garden view rooms are great because they're very close to the pool, game room, lobby, and restaurant. I would probably avoid the tower - that did not look appealing to me. The bay view rooms are probably nice if you want something a bit quieter - can't vouch for how up-to-date they are. The garden view room we stayed in was nicely updated.
Thoughts on the amenities;
(1) restaurant: excellent, with great service, but it is a bit too expensive for what it is. Worth it for the convenience if you're pressed for time. There is also a cafe onsite that offers coffee/tea drinks plus simple hot food items - not just sweets, which meant it works great for a quick breakfast or lunch.
(2) game room: It's a bit of a hole in the wall, practically a service closet, and some of the games are a bit old, but there's a nice variety (a shooting game, a racing game, an actual basketball hoop game, touch screen Fruit Ninja (cool!), and a few others). Oddly, there was one that seemed to cost a quarter, and no one was playing that one. Everything else we saw was free.
(3) Bird cage - this is very cool, open 10am to 3:30pm, with feedings and trainer talks at various times. They have a number of birds and the trainers are professionals - I thought it was well done.
(4) Pool/Hot tub - the pool is a bit on the small side for a resort, but the hot tub is huge, and honestly at most times we stopped by, there were more people in the hot tub than in the pool! Nothing spectacular, but well kept and usable, and has a towel dispenser for convenience.
(5) the bay is quite amazing to have right there. We just sat on the sand and played; didn't use any of the rental offerings, so can't comment on that.
The biggest benefit of Catamaran, however, is the location - if you enjoy being able to walk to a very nice beach (2 blocks away) or having your pick of dozens of local restaurants within a 1/2 mile walk, you will like this place.

Nice hotel in a nice area. Rooms were dated and the hotel lobby workers sent us to the wrong room. Also very expensive for what it is.
Not worth the cost, there are much better places to stay on Pacific/Mission Beach

Stayed for 5 nights and paid for a bay view, definitely expensive at $3800 with all the fees etc for 5 nights. This was our first time staying here as the place we normally stay in Pacific Beach (Pacific Terrace) was booked. We got a room in the tower. Very worn down, old, dirty. There was a diaper behind the dresser. AC unit super loud. Bathtub didn't drain as you showered. Requested extra blankets when we booked that weren't there and never came. Housekeeping sometimes came at 8 am, sometimes 6 pm, sometimes didn't come. Upon check in we weren't given any information about the property at all and simply handed keys and had to ask where to go. The reviews are very curious to me, especially the ones where people mention people by name as no staff members ever once introduced themselves or told us their names. Makes me wonder if these are paid reviews from friends/family of employees who get a bonus if their name is mentioned. The grounds are beautiful and the location is great; however, the rooms/service definitely do not justify the price you pay.

A fantastic resort hotel. The positives are: great location in Pacific beach area, loads of restaurants and activities nearby, friendly and attentive staff, great amenities, beautiful spa. The negatives are: some areas are really dated, we stayed in the tower and the room is big with a great view but really old, dirty in parts, noisy air con, in need of a refurb. I think some of the low rise accommodations have been renovated already. If the tower was renovated, this place would be a 5-star gem in San Diego. Overall had a really great time here. We will definitely return.
