Kimpton Hotel Vintage Seattle

Seattle, USA

Star rating

The hotel

It’s not called ‘Vintage’ for nothing — this is the Grand Cru of Seattle hotels, with interiors, wine lists, and social get togethers, all under the influence of Washington State’s wine country. It may be in downtown Seattle, but step into this boutique retreat and you may feel like you’re in a tasting room, surrounded by earthy shades blended with grape greens and burgundy. It’s the perfect place to sample the region’s fine tipples, with a complimentary wine hour every evening. Why not move on to the award-winning Tulio Ristorante, where you can tuck into Italian classics that come with a fresh Northwest twist — and a wine cellar of course.

This hotel epitomises my confusion about the US hotel star categorisation system. It boggles my mind that this hotel has the same four star ranking as the next door Fairmont. What you will get at this hotel: - Expensive rooms ($250/nightly) - One of two lifts being broken - A tiny lobby accessed through a parking garage (the lobby photo by management should win an award for its creative portrayal of what is essentially a doctor’s waiting room) - ‘Free’ morning coffee and wine for an hour in the afternoon (a nice touch admittedly) - Grubby, tired rooms that aren’t cleaned properly - Bathrooms that were last renovated in the 70s with prison style soap / shampoo dispensers and gross shower curtains - Fairly decent location walkable to all the main sights - Very helpful, polite and personable Reception staff. We dealt with three different staff members and found each of them truly engaged and helpful across a variety of tasks (early check in, printing documents, helping with questions). I feel they’re really let down by the hard product of the hotel. What you won’t get at this hotel: - Daily housekeeping unless you specifically ask. An outrageous system given the notional four star rating and high prices - A truly clean room. Everything other than the bedding and towels was grubby, stained or dusty. - What anyone could reasonably describe as a fitness centre. It’s a prison cell accessible through the underground car park. Would I stay here again? No. Read less

Manny was incredibly helpful with checking us in and accommodating our stay. I requested a cot to sleep on, and after coming back all day there was a cot in the room. He took care of everything and will definitely be coming back to stay my next time in Seattle.

I was a little hesitant to stay here after reading some of these reviews, but I have to say I did not feel negatively about this hotel at all! I thought the rooms were clean, comfy, and even rather large considering its historic nature. I was given an upgrade so other rooms might be smaller. My room, again an upgraded room, had plenty of light (in fact, I had trouble closing all the curtains in the room, there were so many windows! 😂 ). Several reviews said the rooms were “dirty,” but I found my room to be extremely clean. This may be because they don’t clean the rooms every day, which I found to be an odd policy post-COVID, but if you ask them to and give them a time when you’ll be out, they will. The carpet is also gray, which goes with the esthetic, but I can see how that might look "dirty" to some people. There also seemed to be little to no attention paid to one of the elevators being down, which did cause problems when everybody was coming and going at the same time. I had to wait at least 5 minutes for the elevator to come down… and this was at 10:00 at night! I can’t imagine how slow they are during prime check in/check out times. Get that elevator fixed! Now to the neighborhood. I found Hotel Vintage very well-located, and within walking distance of most of the tourist attractions. It’s also a short train ride from the airport.. only three bucks! It’s $50 if you take a cab. There’s lots of shopping and dining nearby, and even though Pike Place Market has a “tourist trap” vibe, there are some good places to eat there (there’s a French Bistro which was very good, and a tea and crumpets place that was great for a light breakfast! And don’t forget the original Starbucks!) It’s also very near Symphony Hall. I was able to catch a concert one night. I will say, and this is obviously no fault of the hotel, Seattle closes down quite early, especially on the weekdays (around 9:00), and once most places are closed it’s kind of creepy walking at night. There are bums and mentally ill people just shouting obscenities, and there are very few (If any) cops in some areas. Several people mentioned they had to “walk uphill” to get to the hotel. I did too, but this is Seattle! I’ve never been to a city where it really does feel like you’re “Walking uphill both ways,” but unless your hotel is parallel to one of these many hills, you just can’t avoid it. Think of it as exercising your glutes, or prepping for all the hiking you’ll be doing on your Alaska cruise! Overall, I really liked my stay at Hotel Vintage. It’s definitely “old school boutique,” and not for everyone (if you want a very luxe experience I’m sure Hotel Monaco can provide that). The hotel is well located and the people are very nice. I would definitely stay here again, provided there are two working elevators! Read less

This hotel was fine for a one night stay. While not in the actual heart of Downtown Seattle, it was easy enough to walk from here to the Symphony light rail station and Paramount Theatre (which I did), and would be convenient to other Seattle destinations as well. My room--a 1 King Premium City View--was spacious, with plenty of space to sit and relax. The bed was comfortable, and I slept well, in spite of my third floor room being somewhat noisy from the traffic below. If I had one complaint about the accommodations, it would be the bathroom, which felt in need of a refresh. The vanity and sink were fine, but the shower felt dated and lacked the features and functionality I would expect from a hotel like this. I used an IHG free night certificate for this stay, which was a deciding factor in choosing this hotel. Even though the room was covered by the certificate, I still had to pay an amenity fee, which went to waste because I wasn't there long enough to partake in any of the hotel's perks. I would stay here again, but I would consider other options next time as well. Read less
