The Asher Adams is a very cute boutique hotel located in what appears to be the downtown area of Salt Lake City. I didn’t have much time to explore the surrounding area, but it felt smaller, cleaner, and safer than many downtown districts. The hotel is within sight of the Utah Jazz arena, making the location convenient.
Upon entering, the hotel felt more like a stylish restaurant or gathering space than a traditional hotel lobby. The main restaurant is on the left, and another bar/dining area shares space with the check-in desk. Check-in was easy, and the staff members I encountered were friendly. The seating areas, lounges, and patios all felt unique and thoughtfully designed. The property itself was clean and well-maintained.
One area that could use improvement was the restaurant, Rouser. It often felt understaffed, and service was slower than expected. We held a work meeting in the back dining area, and while the coffee was excellent, I wasn’t impressed with most of the lunch and dinner offerings. The menu seemed focused on being creative and upscale, but the execution wasn’t always there.
I originally ordered the short rib, which turned out to be more like sliced steak. It was chewy and difficult to cut despite being cooked medium-rare. The chicken dish wasn’t very tender, and I didn’t care for the seasoning. The corn side dish, topped with sauce and cheese, had tough skins and wasn’t particularly enjoyable. Lunch was slightly better. I preferred the pork option, while the heavily seasoned chicken tacos were just average. Breakfast was easily the best meal of my stay. The potatoes were crispy, the bacon was excellent, and the eggs were flavorful enough that they didn’t need additional salt or pepper.
My room on the seventh floor was spacious and comfortable. I had two double beds, and while the room itself was great, I agree with other guests who have mentioned that the beds are quite firm. Had I not been so tired, I probably wouldn’t have slept as well. I requested a mattress topper or extra padding, but none was available.
The shower had good water pressure and heated up quickly. One small complaint was the lotion provided in the room. It was thick, difficult to apply, and had an unpleasant sour scent that made it seem old.
There were refill stations with water containers available in the hallway, though I prefer bottled water. The hotel happily brought bottled water to my room upon request.
I also ordered room service. A burger and tea that initially totaled around $30 ended up costing nearly $50 after fees and service charges. This was one of the largest markups I’ve experienced for hotel dining, and the additional charges felt excessive. The burger itself was decent, and the fries were crispy, but they forgot the bacon I paid extra to add. I’ll need to double-check my folio to make sure that charge was removed. The in-room dining menu was also fairly limited.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The hotel is clean, stylish, and offers spacious rooms in a convenient downtown location. While I wasn’t impressed with most of the food and found the beds overly firm, the property has a lot of charm and character. I would probably explore other hotel options on a future visit, but I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if it ended up being the best choice available.
