Phoenix Park Hotel
Washington DC, USA
3 stars
Its stately setting on Capitol Hill is just the start of the ‘grandeur’ you can expect at Phoenix Park Hotel. A historic property that’s been treated to an $8 million makeover, this has all the sharp styling you’d expect from a hotel right at the heart of this modern metropolis, just a block from Union Station and a stroll from the top sights and shopping. The splendour starts the minute you step inside, with its elegant lobby dressed in mossy greens, uplifting blues, and the sparkle of its shimmering floor, chandeliers, and gold-daubed sweeping staircase. The dining here is more rousing than refined though – with its snug Irish pub, The Dubliner, outfitted with bottle-green walls and emerald leather bar stools, and bringing you all the classics, including fish and chips, Irish Beef Stew, Guinness, and even the odd Irish ‘jig’.

“Nice Quiet Location; Clean”
Nov 05, 2026kzogger
3 1/2 Rating: The location is great. I took a walk early each morning and there were plenty of things close by to take pictures of (Senate Fountain, Taft Monument, National Japanese American Memorial, etc). Our room was nice and quiet at night (friends stayed in Chinatown and heard sirens all night, cars revving, etc), and it was clean (no great views, though, from the room). All of the people who worked there were friendly and greeted us each time they saw us. I liked the free coffee on the 2nd floor (although they did run out, and it took a while to refill both machines).
“Pleasantly surprising -- I'd definitely stay here again.”

This hotel has so much going for it, beginning with an outstanding location. It's close to just about everything and particularly convenient for anyone visiting Capitol Hill on business.
Another major plus is the superb Irish Pub-style restaurant located right in the hotel, with a convenient entrance directly from the lobby. It's a real pleasure to have such an excellent dining option just steps from your room.
The hotel itself has a wonderful sense of history and character. It feels like the kind of place that has witnessed a great deal over the years. You can't help but wonder what stories those walls could tell!
But what impressed me most was the staff. Without exception, everyone I encountered was cordial, welcoming, pleasant, and genuinely eager to make sure I enjoyed my stay. That kind of hospitality makes an enormous difference, particularly when traveling on business.
I especially want to recognize Brenda Ford, Front Desk Supervisor, who made a terrific first impression when I checked in. She was exceptionally friendly, personable, and welcoming — exactly the kind of person you want greeting guests. She set the tone for what turned out to be a very enjoyable stay.
My only disappointment is that the hotel isn't affiliated with a national chain. As a frequent traveler, I appreciate the opportunity to earn loyalty points with Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt, and that's obviously not an option here. It's a small drawback, but one worth mentioning.
That said, there's something refreshing about a hotel that distinguishes itself through its character, location, and, above all, its people. This one certainly does. I would gladly stay here again.
“Comfortable stay, prime location.”

Excellent location, the lobby had a warm old-fashioned feel and the coffee room is pleasant with complimentary, tasty coffee all the time. The room was bright and tidy. There was a minor noise from the pub ( which is on the ground floor and they serve food and play good music) and they offered earplugs which helped a lot. The service was friendly and the amenities were adequate for a short stay. I highly recommend it.
