Image of the Tripadvisor rating The worst 5 Star hotel I have stayed at.

The hotel grounds are well maintained and the gardens are lovely. However the rooms are basic at best with just a bed and a couch that is very low, as if the legs have been removed there are no luggage racks so you need to put your suitcase on the coffee table or bed. Dining is repititious with no changes to the menu, buffet meals are consistently cold and the selection is poor. Overall I would say this hotel is 3.5 star I have stayed at many 5 star hotels and this place falls well short of the expected standard Read less

We had a wonderful stay at Barcelo Coconut Island, where we felt incredibly relaxed and well looked after. A big warm thank you to Kyle, at Kabang Restaurant and Bar, and Ton, at Laku Beach Club, for their exceptional service, hospitality and kindness. We very much enjoyed our chats - so thought to give them a special mention! :) Susanna & Adrian

We are near to the end of our stay at Barcelo. We chose this place as our honeymoon destination as we wanted to stay in a quiet place. Coconut island is so remote - it's exactly what we were looking for. As for the resort - for the first time we felt as 2 weeks was a little too long. We booked jacuzzi suite and were impressed with the look of it at the start. However, we reported blocked shower drain after about 7 days and this was never fixed. We asked for this to be fixed by sending messages and pictures of it via chat and also reported at the reception- we were told that someone fixed it. Unfortunately this is not the case and bathroom ends up flooded when having shower... we have up reporting as our request is simply ignored. What bothers us the most is the horrible smell from the bathroom sink. Water doesn't drain and constantly sits in the sink - it makes the whole place smell really bad. Again this was reported and as tehe shower issue - was igmored. I have noticed that floors are not cleaned properly - I dropped some suncream at the very start of our stay and sticky stains are still on the bathroom flooring - if floors were mopped this would be gone long time ago. Mirrors, shower glass hasn't been cleaned once since we arrived. We didn't really use the jacuzzi - since we arrived there is loads of sand and dirt all over the area, it's not very appealing. To some this might be a very minor thing but I would not expect this from a 5* resort. Breakfast is great as you would expect from a buffet style - enough to chose from. Overall it's good for a week long stay. I wish it was much better and the maintenance issues were actually addressed when reported as ours were ignored. Read less

Beautiful location, fantastic staff! The pools, bars and restaurants are all great. Some of the food could have been served warmer but overall a great place

Stayed for 7 nights all inclusive through luxury Escapes (LE) so can't complain about the value. A few issues because of the misleading wording of the LE vouchers (per person v. per package when upgrading to triple share etc) meant a not so great start to the stay and the request for refurbished rooms was not possible. High season and full capacity so understandable. The standard room was actually ok. Staff were great, particularly Nisa at the front desk that had to bear my LE frustrations at check in. Appears that I am not alone with LE's misleading wording. The resort is clearly working towards a 5 star standard as there is a lot of refurbs in progress. The resort is picturesque from the restaurants at the front beach and the pools are very refreshing but the sea water quality is terrible as the resort is on the mangrove/mud plain side of Phuket. I could not see below my waist in waist deep water and could clearly feel the mud between my toes. You wont get a beach or water like the West coast of Phuket unless you get a 45+min boat out to the real islands. Even the free trips to Rang Yai 8 mins away will not get you clear water. All inclusive is ok if you like to drink many many cocktails like we did but as with many hotels in high season that need to feed the masses in a timely manner, the buffets were of a disappointing quality when compared to the a la carte dining. Most of the a la carte dishes we tried were quite tasty in comparison. 7 nights is probably too long if you've been to Phuket before. Location is ok as it's only 300-400 baht into town by taxi. Would be good if the hotel had a regular shuttle into town (for a fee) as I'm sure it would be popular. Read less
