Dubai for shoppers:
A suggested one day itinerary
Start your day at Mall of the Emirates, instantly recognizable as the home of Ski Dubai. The giant mall showcases over 560 international brands spanning high-end and high street fashion, beauty, sports, accessories, homeware and much more. Highlights include three areas dedicated to luxury fashion: the grand Fashion Dome, the recently re-vamped Fashion Avenue and Via Rodeo, an indoor shopping ‘street’ modelled on LA’s Rodeo Drive.
Spend the afternoon at the city’s largest mall, The Dubai Mall, which is home to just about every label imaginable. The 440,000 square foot Fashion Avenue is the epicentre of Dubai’s luxury fashion scene and houses the world’s largest collection of fashion brands under one roof. Visit the flagship Burberry store for British fashion at its best, Chanel or Dior for quality French goods, or the Armani/Dubai concept store for pieces from across the Italian fashion House’s various collections. The Dubai Mall also has five department stores – Bloomingdale’s, Galeries Lafayette, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and Paris Gallery – and thousands of branded and independent boutiques, as well as an array of dining and leisure outlets.
If you’re shopped out of malls, head to the Gold Souk in Deira, where you can pick up reasonably priced gold jewellery. Pieces are charged by weight according to the current market price and excellent discounts are available to those skilled at haggling. A trip to the souk, which is open until 10pm, is an experience in itself, located a short stroll from the spice and fabric souks for those looking for further shopping opportunities.
