Vera Loves TV

Addictive shows you'll love to watch in the air.

At Virgin Atlantic we’re proud to be one of the few airlines that selects their own movie and TV content – it’s all chosen by us, just for you.

Look out for anything labelled “Vera Loves” – that means we think it’s the best of the best. Each month we use the Vera Loves stamp of approval to highlight the entertainment we wouldn’t want you to miss.

We might champion actors or musicians to watch out for, new or unusual filming techniques, right through to massive blockbusters. Whatever you choose, you can be sure that it’s been picked with passion.

And don't forget to check out our family friendly viewing to keep our younger travellers occupied.

Just a note - as we have different types of entertainment systems on our aircraft, the line up may vary.

The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned From a Mythical Man

It was long considered an urban myth that comedy icon Murray would turn up uninvited to join in at random events. However, this film has unseen footage as proof – and the result is both profound and magical.

Castle Rock

In the opening episode of this major new horror-anthology series, Henry Deaver, a death-row attorney, confronts his dark past when an anonymous call lures him back to his hometown of Castle Rock, Maine.

Crime + Punishment

In 2014 a group of 12 New York cops alleged that they and other officers were being forced to fulfil ‘arrest quotas’ at the expense of other, community-based duties. This brilliant documentary is the story of how the 12 fought the system in order to change it.

The Farthest

Emmy-winning documentary exploring NASA’s Voyager programme. Told with daring and passion, it gives the lowdown on both Voyagers, making the case that their continued existence and ongoing exploration may well be mankind’s most incredible achievement. Warning: contains scenes unsuitable for nervous flyers.

Gregory Porter: One Night Only - Live At The Royal Albert Hall

Concentrating mainly on songs from his most recent album, Nat King Cole & Me, as well as fan favourites from Liquid Spirit and Take Me to the Alley, this brilliant concert film sees jazz singer Porter at his very best.

Minding the Gap

Three teens bond in order to escape volatile families, with skateboarding their route of choice, in director Bing Lui’s acclaimed documentary. What emerges is a film about skateboarding that also touches on wider social issues in ways that are both inspiring and affecting.

Pandas

Documentary narrated by Kristen Bell about Qian Qian, a panda about to experience nature for the first time. If you like pandas (and if you don’t, then you need to have a word with yourself) this is the documentary for you.

Taboo

Co-created by its star, Tom Hardy, Taboo revolves an ex-adventurer driven by revenge as he attempts to rebuild his dad’s shipping empire in Victorian London. True, it’s not everybody’s cup of rosy lea – it’s violent, for a start – however, those who liked it loved it.

True Detective

After a disappointing second season, True Detective is back to its best with a new storyline that begins in 1980 and concludes over two decades later, when a retired detective (Mahershala Ali) is asked by a documentary producer to look back at an unsolved case.

Waco

The 1993 Waco siege began when cops tried to raid the HQ of a cult headed by David Koresh. All the drama is captured by this Emmy-winning mini-series boasting a cracking lead turn from Taylor Kitsch as Koresh, and Michael Shannon as hostage negotiator Gary Noesner.

Wave

A winner at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival, this incredible short sees a patient waking from a coma with a strange new ability: he can speak a fully formed but unrecognizable language – one that baffles linguistic experts from around the globe.
