Star rating

The hotel

One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, Fairmont Royal York was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 and has since welcomed dignitaries and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the hotel is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building and offers a wealth of amenities to keep you busy in-between sightseeing. The fitness centre is almost a world of its own with lap pool, children’s wading pool, steam rooms, saunas and a state-of-the-art gym. Two levels of shops are enough to satisfy the most ardent of shoppers with more shops located directly underneath the hotel in the PATH complex. Several exceptional restaurants cater to every kind of culinary desire. For mouth-watering steaks, look no further than Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and for the best martinis in town, head to the Library Bar with its rich furnishings and elegant atmosphere. Not to be missed is the afternoon tea and Rooftop Garden Tour, held every Saturday and Sunday.

As a 5* hotel it was a real let down. On arrival there was no help with luggage and the checkin process was slow. The room was tired and the bathroom was terrible (chipped tiles, yellowing decor, broken bath, very poor shower). The air conditioning was ineffective. The room was tired and the bathroom was terrible (chipped tiles, yellowing decor, broken bath, very poor shower). The air conditioning was ineffective. The lobby area was incredibly noisy every evening and the Library bar seemed always to be closed for private events. There was no response to my feedback on checkout. Way over priced for a poor experience. The only good aspects of this hotel were the Reign restaurant and Reign bar where the food, drink and service were at the level you would want. It was also well located in the city. Read less

First time in Toronto. Came for a baseball game. The hotel was great, perfect size, beautiful and clean rooms. My only complaint was the first room we were given had a city view but the keycard didn’t work so instead of reprogramming the card, they immediately put us in a different room. The room we ended up in did not have a view of anything.… Read more

From the pre arrival email from the Manager (Fairmont Gold Status + Gold Suite), the hotel SUV drivers, to an accommodated early check in, Jessie's drinks at Clockworks, to being greeted by the AMAZING ladies in the gold lounge who remember how I like my coffee from my last stay in Jan - FIRST class all the way!! I have stayed at many Fairmonts in gold level suites and noting compares to the Royal York! The room and view was breathtaking, the Gold lounge is spectacular, the personalized touches are incredible, housekeeping is amazing and the nightly turn down is one of a kind! I recognize it's costly to stay Gold level suite and with that comes some expectation of quality service but what this hotel offers is beyond transactional. The staff here are truly one of a kind! Special thank you to my favorite ladies and how they take care of me and make every morning better - Agnes, Karla and Maryan. I cannot wait for my next visit and thank you for taking such good care of me and making every stay unforgettable ! ❤️ Read less

I enjoyed my stay. I had room service for dinner and the food was great. I loved staying in such a historic hotel. My only complaint is that pillows smelled like the previous guest. However, I called front desk and this was resolved quickly. Great location but finding overnight street parking was difficult.

The room was immaculate and Stella G was the most professional and attentive house keeper I may have ever come across. She truly made me feel more important than I probably deserve! One of the best Fairmont experiences I’ve ever had - Thank you!
