Hyatt Regency Toronto

The hotel

The standout feature of the Hyatt Regency Toronto is it's location. Don't get us wrong, the food is great, the rooms are sophisticated, and you've even got a rooftop pool. But what you really want to be for a city break, is in the heart of everything - and here you have that! The Mix Bistro within the hotel looks out onto Kings Street so it's a great spot to people-watch and see the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto without leaving. But when you do step out, you're just a stones through from watching some baseball at Rogers Corner, or visiting the iconic CNN Tower. And then on Kings Street itself, you've got plenty of restaurants, shops and bars to explore to your hearts desire.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location except if you plan to Uber! King Street has restrictions and we were not able to get picked up or dropped off without having to walk 2 blocks away. There are plenty of other hotels around so we will not be going back. Nothing is more frustrating than arriving for check in and the room isn’t ready. I don’t mean “early check in” I mean check in says 4p and you still have to wait well past 4p for your room. It happened to multiple people so I almost wonder if it was a ploy to get people or grab food/drinks at the hotel bar. Unfortunately the bar had such limited selection it wasn’t even worth it! We got the Deluxe Suite and it was outdated with an extremely poor layout. The bathroom was embarrassingly small. The living room had dated and peeling furniture (fake leather couches that left the little peeled flakes on your clothes). There were 3 windows above the couch and only 2 have curtains. There is no way to cover the 3rd which is extremely inconvenient since there is a large building next door that has balconies facing the room. The bathroom is so small there was no way to get dressed in there (I’m saying that as someone who is 5’2” 130lbs) so you have to cross the window to get to the bedroom and potentially have peeping toms looking in. In room breakfast was prompt and very good. Good selection. It was surface level clean but the carpet had stains and there were rust stains in the bathroom. It could use a deep cleaning. Read less

Overall, a great hotel in a perfect location for accessing all the top downtown destinations, sites, neighborhoods and venues. We walked everywhere except the Budweiser Stage. Negatives of the room: bathroom way too small with insufficient counter space; almost no storage space—the odd boxy built in drawers in the bedroom are utterly useless due to their dimensions so we had to live out of our suitcases, and there was no room to set up and use the luggage rack without being in the way of moving about the room; lighting was HORRIBLE—not bright enough for reading in bed, only one wall light at the far end of the room; the long wooden “shelf” at the head of the bed served no purpose other than to take away about 8” of space that would have been useful for adding room at the foot of the beds—this design also meant that the nightstands were 24 or 30 inches deep so the outlets below them were extremely difficult to use, you had to get on your hands and knees to reach them, and this caused me to overlook my hearing aid charger adapter when I packed up and now it’s going to cost me close to $40 to have it shipped to me!!! Fortunately, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the room (including the bathroom) was immaculate, the shower was fantastic, and the maid and front desk service were impeccable. Those factors tipped the scales in favor of an overall enjoyable stay. But whoever designed the rooms was an idiot. Read less
