Set up of the resort itself was a bit confusing (lobby only accessible from one side) but got the hang of it after a few days. Food was decent, not the best I've had but pretty good for an all inclusive. Highlight of the trip was definitely the staff. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Marcus was a favorite for me and my group. He went above and beyond and checked on us each day of our stay. Getting to know him was amazing and he made our trip in Jamaica amazing! Read less

I guess being Jamaican our money was not valued as we had encounter with two different staff who were horrible. We were celebrating mother's day and my sister's birthday. I would not recommend. We thought room service was available only to be told its for cleaning. We were not advised of this upon checkin. We had an infant with us so we had to be back and forth to get her stuff. One of the dining room servers at breakfast was rude and we got the same treatment at lunch. The water spilt and it was more than a spill as we used almost all the napkin to dry it up and she never apologize neither did she come back to clean it up but was all smiles with the overseas guests going above and beyond. The pool bartender literally ignored my mother when she went to return some cups as well as he was annoyed to serve us and he made it very clear. I'm pissed I didnt take their names but when checking out and speaking about our experience Romaine ( hope i didnt butcher his name) said he knew who the guy was I was speaking about at the pool bar. Romaine was kind and Shout out to the dining room supervisor who worked on the 12th of May in the morning. He was a sweetheart. The food was okay. Nothing special. The room could have been cleaner. Have a birthday trip coming up and was gonna go back but I'm glad this happened now so I can go where my money is valued. Read less

We stayed for 5 nights and had a great time. We traveled as group of 6 with kids. It's a solid 4/4.5 with few things to improve on to be a 5, imho. See cons for things that could be improved. We stayed for 5 nights and had a great time. We traveled as group of 6 with kids. It's a solid 4/4.5 with few things to improve on to be a 5, imho. See cons for things that could be improved. In all, we'd recommend this hotel and will consider coming back in the future. Pros: Food: [  ] Buffet had good options (not the greatest, but adequate). Food was delicious. Food theme changes each day for dinner with more or less same options for breakfast and lunch. [  ] We only tried Italian from a la carte and enjoyed the experience. No reservations were needed, except for Japanese. [  ] The food on the beach was a good option starting at noon. Beach [  ] Water was amazing. Very warm and clean. There is seaweed around but there is enough cleared area around. There was a bit of seaweed particles in the afternoons brought with the waves, but not too bad. Beach is interesting. It is filled with Indian almond trees which provide great natural shade but also make the send a bit more messy and not pristine. The beach isn't very wide like it is at its sister property nearby. Overall, we enjoyed it but seen much better beaches in the Carribean. Service [  ] People were super welcoming especially at the Buffett. Cassandra at the buffet was so nice and patient with our kids. Grounds were kept clean and room cleaning was adequate and daily. Staff was eager to help. We managed to avoid hotel's Welcome package presentation (understand why they do it, but not something I want to do on my vacation) Rooms [  ] Good sized rooms even for us with 2 kids. Crib was provided. The views from the balcony onto the pool area and ocean were amazing. In my humble opinion, upgrade to full ocean view would not be worth it. Beds and pillows were adequate. Entertainment & Atmosphere [  ] Daily entertainment seemed fun for those involved. Nightly entertainment wasn't very well attended and was on the lame side (movies, magic show). There was stuff to do. [  ] General vibe at the hotel was very chill. Plenty of spots to play billiards and other table games, ice cream shop, lots of lounging areas. [  ] While Iberostar Waves is a family hotel I was surprised how little pool area was designated for kids, and the area that was suitable wasn't very safe. That was disappointing. On the positive side, they do have water slides between Waves hotel and Selection hotel. That was decent, but a short walk. There is also a room where kids can play with some minimal toys. Babysitting is ~15/hour. They have star camp for kids over 4yrs old where they do activities with kids. We didn't take advantage and not sure if there is an additional cost for that. Sustainability [  ] We liked that hotel tried to be sustainable. They had no plastic bottles or straws. Towel management was efficient. These initiatives were welcome. Cons: Rooms [  ] Rooms were probably the weakest thing about this resort. They seem to be doing renovations to some, but ours was dated all around, especially the shower. In addition, they were minimally equipped. No slippers, no robe. Beverages [  ] While I have yet to find an all inclusive with good alcohol options, they were similarly poor here. Lower shelf stuff. Drinks are plenty but need to request double shot each time and tip to get a decent drink. Boat Sellers [  ] Locals selling souveneers and marijuana are present at all times on the beach. It can be annoying at times, but they are not too bad and obviously provide important service to those that smoke. I'd prefer they had a designated area to park instead of smoking and selling in front of kids all over the beach. But they also provided some good Jamaican music. Read less

The issues with this establishment started before I even arrived. They stated that their Japanese restaurant, Samurai, required a reservation ahead of time. I called to request early check-in and make the reservation, 3 different times, and no one answered. I called the main Iberostar number for me to be rerouted, only for someone to pick up and then hang up on me. I tried to email as well to request both of these things and no one got back to me. When we arrived, I mentioned all of these things to the front desk, they called the number to speak to someone about my issues and wouldn't you know it, no one answered. They apologized and made the reservation for me, but the reservation was placed under a random room, because again I did not have my room yet, since I tried to do it earlier and was unsuccessful. Mind you, I had already checked myself in on the app, but I was not given a room number or the ability to be able to make the reservation on the app, which honestly defeats the purpose of checking in before arrival. Once we checked in, we were given a spiel about getting free resort credits for listening to an informercial over breakfast the next day. We were shown our room and it was fine, just a standard resort room. The rest of the property was fine, pretty clean, but there was construction taking place which blocked off access to a certain stairwell. The drinks and food were fine, but the alcohol was pretty watered down. They tried to charge us $5 per pool floaty, which is pretty ridiculous, considering the resort I was staying at in Negril just a day prior, gave us 4 different types of floaties, all of free. The next morning we went for the informercial which was to get us to buy into a sort of time-share type situation. The guide, a Jamaican, was great honestly, he was candid and knowledgeable. It all went downhill after he passed us on to a supervisor, who basically was upset that we did not want to make a commitment right there in front of him and was being super rude. When we left, staff members also did not step in after we got into an altercation with a man who decided to randomly inject himself into our conversation on the golf ride back and got out ready to fight. Instead of the caddy just driving us to our resort, he stops and I almost had to punch the person for being disrespectful to my fiancé and I chided the caddy for stopping when he could have just kept driving to avoid the nonsense. We then had to get into more nonsense during dinner when we went for our reservation and they could not find it, because again, it was under a random room. To make matters worse, they had finally emailed me back on the day of the reservation to give me a different time slot of 8PM, which was different from what they had given to me in person, and also under a different room number. As we waited, we heard the manager tell another guest that booking reservations on the app was essentially useless because it at times does not show up on their system and as a result booking in person was better. So exactly what is the purpose of the app then? Overall, the experience was not great. Samurai and the fruits during breakfast was probably the best part of the trip, but everything else left a lot to be desired. Read less

I actually went to this resort about 10 years ago with my family back in 2015, but I decided to come back here with my SO in May 2025! And honestly, we loved our time there! The absolute highlight of our trip was enjoying the delicious food and the hospitality on the resort as well as the luminous lagoon excursion we did. Food wise, the food was 4.8/5 overall we enjoyed our meals at the buffet and I love the fact that they had different themes for each night. We didn’t strictly have just Jamaican food or Americanized food on the entire time. I love the fact that they celebrate a Cinco de Mayo. They had a Jamaica night and even an Asian theme night! I also highly recommend going to the the jerk shack around noon! It was absolutely delicious and you don’t even necessarily need to go off the resort to get good jerk chicken because it’s right there on the resort! Me and my SO got jerk chicken at least 4 times at lunch time. Hospitality was also really great. The bartenders were friendly. The maids were friendly and the people doing the entertainment were very friendly as well! If you needed any help or had any concerns, the staff was right there to help even when I was going to my room one of the workers was asking me if I knew where I was going and stuff already willing to help when I didn’t need it, which is amazing. The only downsides to this resort is kind of what took points off for me is Thai shady timeshare tactics. If you’re booking the Japanese restaurant ( the only restaurant on the resort you need a reservation for btw) if they mention anything about a “free” breakfast, a “discounted” or “free” excursion please, please, please do NOT fall for this! You’re gonna be roped into allegedly a 90 minute presentation which could take several hours and pretty much waste time throughout the day! The tactic was originally very confusing because the time we even got to the resort we had to wait exactly until 9 o’clock, and we were going into this room, and I knew for a fact that this was gonna be some sort of timeshare thing because obviously they had to be in some sort of catch to get a free catamaran boat party as well as the free breakfast. Because I said no, the lady rudely and passive aggressively kicked me and my SO out of that resort and time we actually got back. We were just really confused on what really happened. Because super friendly, you have to be careful with these manipulative and confusing sales tactics by some of the people by the front desk. They honestly lose marks for that and it makes me reluctant to even come back to the resort again after that! I know this could happen at any resort, but please avoid anything they mention anything that’s allegedly free or discounted you’re better off paying for your own excursion to be honest. The only other downsides to this resort, is some of the solicitors on the beach selling you anything from Jamaican souvenirs to even weed. Personally, I avoided the beach because of this I just wanna relax on the beach and not buy anything although I did end up buying a few few things lol but either way I don’t wanna buy everything every single time either. The last thing I wouldn’t mention, the rooms are a little bit dated, and they could use some renovations to be honest, but it didn’t really bother me all that much because the bed was super comfy so it made up for a dated room lol. Overall, I rate the service 4.5/5 because definitely could be better but it still was good and the other staff made up for some of the negatives on this resort. Nevertheless, I may come back in the future, but I’m not 100% sure as yet! Jamaica is a really big country so I would probably wanna take my chances exploring other parts of Jamaica. I have never been to outside of Montego Bay. Read less
