Undoubtedly one of the most sought after hotels in the Caribbean, Round Hill Hotel & Villas has been a long-standing Jamaican icon since its opening in 1953. A former pineapple estate on the outskirts of Montego Bay, what is it about Round Hill that makes it such a magnet? Round Hill is where Jacqueline and JFK spent their honeymoon, where Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote the Sound of Music, where Hitchcock got sunburned and where Noel Coward, if egged on enough, would sing for the guests. Today, this elegant beachfront resort offers the same blend of qualities that has always pulled the famous names and faces; namely a well-preserved slice of old Jamaica and tremendous hospitality. You still enjoy the estates' stylish architecture and a predictably colonial pace of life, but with the added pull of an oceanfront spa, an exceptional family program and refurbished hotel rooms designed for beach living by Ralph Lauren, (perhaps whilst visiting his own villa at Round Hill) as so much more. The ocean side restaurant perfectly blends the hotel’s historic pedigree with its new energy.

“Don’t miss this gem in Jamaica!!”

This is a “do not miss” spot in Jamaica. Easy to get to, but very hard to leave!! The staff are incredibly attentive and the quality of the facilities, food, entertainment are all amazing. We have recommended this place to many, many friends and families.

“Terrible service and food”

I honestly do not understand the hype behind this place. For the amount you pay here — easily $100–150 per person depending on drinks and appetizers — the experience was shockingly bad from start to finish. I’ve genuinely received better customer service from Chick-fil-A and even McDonald’s. The service was one of the worst parts. Our salad came out completely dry with no dressing, and after trying multiple times to get someone’s attention, the staff either ignored us or acted annoyed that we were asking for basic things. It felt like once they dropped the food off, we no longer existed. Water glasses stayed empty, dirty plates sat on the table forever, and nobody checked on us. For a restaurant charging premium prices, you expect professionalism, attention to detail, and at least decent hospitality. Instead, the staff seemed disorganized, uninterested, and completely disconnected from the dining experience. The food itself was mediocre at best and definitely not worth the price point. I don’t mind paying for expensive meals when the quality and service match the cost, but this felt like paying luxury prices for fast-food level service — except somehow slower and less attentive. Extremely disappointing experience overall, and unfortunately not somewhere I would recommend or return to.

“Elegant, Timeless, and Magical”

I’ve just completed my third visit to Round Hill, and each time is better than the last. What makes Round Hill so good? First, it’s a throwback to a time when Caribbean resorts didn’t need waterslides, casinos, and music blaring until all hours to attract guests. Round Hill is solid in both service and facilities. I travel the Caribbean extensively and have found good service on many islands, but Round Hill’s staff and management are absolutely the best. Every staff member brings a smile, a “hello,” and sincerely asks how your stay is going, waiting for your response and an opportunity to lend a hand if needed. Second, the property is gorgeous. Manicured lawns and gardens, brilliant white structures with classis green and white awnings, and “clean beyond clean.” The facilities are just right – nicely-appointed rooms in the hotel section, an open and inviting lobby, library stocked with books in many languages, the “Pineapple Room” for casual conversations and gatherings in the ample air conditioning, comfortable seating, and in front of what I believe is the resort’s only TV in case there’s a show you just have to watch. Options for casual dining or formal dining, and a Ralph Lauren-designed bar for sipping and light bites. Lots of outdoor seating. Third, great-service and relaxing services at the onsite spa, with its own private “adults only” beach. And not to be left out, the recreation and watersports. There’s a beautiful infinity pool, inviting and calm beach, glass-bottom boat tours, and other activities to be enjoyed. Our first visit was a multi-night stay in one of the resort’s villas, complete with chef, housekeeper, and butler, and our own pool. Truly the “lap of luxury.” Our second and third visits were to the hotel, with very comfortable beds, ample AC, fast Wi-Fi, upscale bath amenities, in-room French press coffee, refrigerator, and seating area. And thankfully, no TV! Round Hill has become our favorite destination in the Caribbean, and we look forward to coming back often. You won’t be disappointed.
