We had a fantastic time at Couples Negril. We went in May 2025 for our Honeymoon and felt welcome from the time we arrived at the resort. The ride from Sangster Airport was approximately 1.5 hours. The bus driver narrated the different areas we were traveling through and the bus was air conditioned and comfortable. We utilized Club Mobay to ensure our process through the airport went swiftly. The resort has four restaurants and the food variety was great. The drinks were delicious and they have resort workers who check on you frequently while lounging on the beach and brings drinks, water, etc. There are activities throughout the day and all the water activities are included through the resort. We snorkeled, kayaked, and took a Catamaran which toured Seven Mile Beach and pointed out all the resorts to us. You also have the option to visit Couples Swept Away, which is several miles down the road, for the day to compare the two. We utilized the Spa services and got a couples massage which was phenomenal. It usually rains everyday for 1-2 Hours in the afternoon but it’s so relaxing hearing the rain through the plush trees and vegetation, we looked forward to the daily rain. There are activities into the night which included DJ, karaoke, a beach party and more. It’s really a great place for couples to connect with one another. We loved it so much, we cancelled our cruise next year and will book our anniversary trip to Couples Negril. Read less

We stayed at Couples Negril in February 2025. Meant to post this review earlier, life got in the way. We had stayed at a different Couples resort twice before and were keen to try out Couples Negril after our previous great experiences. This resort has 234 rooms located in numbered blocks set amongst tropical gardens. The communal areas and restaurants are all located centrally on the property. The resort is bordered at the front by a coastal road and small airport and at the back by the beach. On each side of the Couples property are very large resort complexes along the stretch of beautiful beach. On arrival, we were enthusiastically greeted with “welcome home” and refreshed with a cool cloth and a glass of bubbly and once checked in, we were taken to our rooms. This was done by one staff member leading a group of about 12 new guests. She gave a running speech about different aspects of the resort as we tried to keep up and hear what she had to say. She asked for our room numbers and we all followed behind her as she dropped each couple off at their respective accommodation block, with the instruction to follow the numbers and you will find your room. We found this method of allocating rooms lacking the personal warm touch we would have expected from Couples; after a long flight and over 2 hours on a bus from the airport, we did not feel “welcomed home” at this point. Our luggage was delivered to our room very quickly after our arrival. In the room there was a Spa brochure and the welcome pack given to us at the check-in desk included a leaflet about the daily entertainment and activities but there was a distinct lack of general information about the workings of the resort. So, we found ourselves having to repeatedly ask and really dig around to get the simple answers we needed to find our way in the beginning. Specifically, there is a guest portal on the web that you can log into by means of a QR code, to make reservations, bookings and orders within the resort but we had not been informed about this or missed this information in our rush to follow behind when being taken to our room. We only found out about it after two days into our stay when we went on one of our information gathering episodes. The room was smaller than we expected. The furniture consisted of a large comfortable bed with two very large bedside tables, a TV above a cabinet with a mini fridge and a single small chair. Other than the bed there was nowhere in the room to sit and relax and in particular, there was nowhere comfortable to sit and eat if you ordered room service. The balcony had a small knee high table and two large Papasan type chairs which were not comfortable to sit in for long periods. The room was dark and poorly lit, however the bathroom was bright. The bathroom had a louvered sliding door and a louvered glass less window opening towards the external landing causing a lack of privacy both in and out of the room. At first glance the room seemed clean but after a closer look it was dusty, the ceiling fan blades had not been cleaned for some time and were covered in a dark fuzz and there were grimy corners in the bathroom. There is a coffee maker in the room taking coffee pods and there were also sachets of sugar, coffee creamer and tea if you prefer. The room was refreshed each day; however we did experience difficulty getting more coffee and our mini fridge restocked due to lack of information about how to do this using the guest portal but that was resolved after much asking and chasing for the answers. When booking a holiday we look for small, adult only resorts with a relaxed, romantic atmosphere. We found this resort to be very busy, most likely in part due to the time of year. Contrary to its name, there seemed to be many large groups of guests which dampened the “romantic” feel of the place. It was possible to find quiet areas around the resort but the pools, hot tubs and bars were continually dominated by these groups making those areas feel unwelcome for us and for this reason we did not use the main pool or swim up bar during our stay opting instead to spend the majority of our time on the beach. The beach was fabulous with plenty of loungers, chairs and space. It was extremely tidy and well maintained by the grounds staff and water sports teams. The sea was calm and clear and with the chair cushions doubling as water floats this was a great way to spend a day. Bar service on the beach was very good and frequent so we were never really without something to drink. The beach is obviously public and there was a constant stream of beach walkers from the other resorts as well as locals selling their services, which all added to the atmosphere although we would have preferred a little less traffic. We ate at 4 of the offered restaurants. Breakfast is served buffet style at the Cassava Terrace; it opens at 7:30 and it is very busy right from the start. However if you are desperate for a coffee or latte beforehand, the Java Café opens at 7:00 but it is also very busy, so be prepared to stand in line. Our best dining experience was at Oteheite; reservations are necessary for this restaurant and you can only reserve 48 hours beforehand, so availability is limited. The Heliconia is also busy at night and there can be line ups waiting to be seated. All of the restaurants serve from rotational menus that repeat, however the Cassava does have a buffet some evenings. Generally we found the food to be good but were surprised how mild the “jerk” option was, for being in Jamaica. In most instances our food was served lukewarm on scorching hot plates; we would have rather had hot food served on warm plates. The service in all the restaurants was exceptional. They could never do enough for you and most were extremely pleasant and genuine. We also found that we were served in good time and there was never a long wait for anything we ordered. We indulged in a spa treatment even though the prices seemed a bit high. The spa is lovely and the staff pleasant and professional. Although the massage was amazing there was an extremely aggressive up selling campaign to get you to upgrade or buy more services which was not pleasant, especially as a repeated “no thanks” was not the answer they wanted. It made for an uncomfortable start to what should have been a relaxing event; we assumed it is the hurdle that we had to cross in order to get an excellent massage. Couples Resorts are known for their return customers, some returning for many years. Couples Resorts are good at recognising this loyalty and reward these customers through their Romance Reward Scheme and the Repeaters Dinner during their stay. You can recognise customers that return frequently as they have established relationships with many of the staff and there is great familiarity shown between them. It is wonderful that these friendships develop and it can make your stay at a place like Couples that bit extra special if you are one of these customers. However, if you are not, it dampens the experience when a repeater is shown preferential treatment above other customers who have been waiting patiently for a particular service. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Jamaica and at Couples Negril. There were some niggles and frustrations and although we enjoyed ourselves and left with an overall good feeling, we did not consider this to be the romantic couples holiday that we had hoped for. Would we go back to this particular Couples resort? Probably not, as it did not equal the experience we had received at the other Couples resort, so we would most likely consider returning to our previous choice of resort. It was worth the try. I came to Couples Negril with high expectations as I had gone to Couples San Souci 15 years ago for my honeymoon. I haven’t found anything to beat that yet. Couples Negril was nice and quite small, which I like. The beach….which I chose this place for that reason, did not disappoint. The ocean was clear, seaweed free and calm and the beach was clean. The food wasn’t bad at all but found the breakfast buffet kind of repetitive but good. The only thing I didn’t like was the pastry station. Those may be about 10 bees flying around at any one time, which I could deal with as bees don’t carry germs, but birds would go in and pack at the pastries. Some kind of cover would’ve been good, so that put me off from that section. The service in general was kind of lackluster and slow in some areas. All the people I met who worked there were there were very nice. The entertainment in the evening, though the people were good at what they do it was not very exciting. I did love the steel drums show the best. Couples Negril is orientated around water sports like diving snorkeling and cruises, which was pretty good that I did not go diving. I wrote them an email before I went asking if I could possibly not be placed in a room right next to the road as I heard it is very noisy. Not only was our place right next to the road, but directly in front of our door was the cleaning supply station. It was noisy from about 7 AM till about nine or 10 PM at night. there should not be a room right there. It wouldn’t of been bad as we are usually outmost of the day in the evening but this time I’ve got here particular in June is rainy season so every day for several hours it would rain any time between noon and 5 PM so it’s not like we could go back to the room relax and have a nap though we did go back to our room but we could not relax or have a nap. And even the TV was horrible. The sound quality was like watching an old VSH tape from the 80s. I didn’t feel like paying extra to upgrade as I thought paying near $4000 a couple, for one week, was plenty and for that price I would expect no rooms to be that noisy with a horrible TV and very spotty Wi-Fi. The rooms are clean and the cleaners come out every day to do what they usually do. Though the rooms in no way a four star hotel quality. They are very basic and there was mold in the bathroom. We did go to the local craft market, but didn’t stay as long as I would’ve liked because of the pressure of….come here, come here, come and look at this. I’ll make you a deal. it was nonstop and uncomfortable if they would learn that tourist like to browse at their own leisure without being haggled, people wouldn’t leave as quickly I would spend more leisurely time looking around and buying more things. And then we did have a quick visit to Rick‘s Café when it opened as that like a must do while in the grill Jamaica. We also did the swap one day with Couples Swept away. It was a lovely resort but very long and lots of walking from one to the other. The ocean itself was not as calm and you couldn’t just float on the float beds without paying attention or you would drift down the coast. All in all, I would not return here and I was quite bored by the end of the week, though I am not a person that likes to return to the same place again as I like to see different places and areas and have new experiences. Bit of a mixed review really of this hotel. I'll start with the negatives. Not a 5* in our opinion. On arrival, we were asked for a credit card where they take £300 for 'damages' This is refunded on checkout. The rooms were tired and needed updating/freshening up. No bar area where you can sit and chat/play cards/relax in the evening. There is an outside area but if it has rained or is raining, there is nowhere to go. Entertainment is in one of the restaurants where evening dinner is served. If you don't dine in their, it makes it awkward to go and watch the entertainment once you have eaten elsewhere. Mini bar isn't automatically restocked, you have to make your request through the app, the same with booking dinner or trips, although guest services will assist if necessary. Wifi very poor. Drops out quite frequently and especially if there is a storm. The hotel advertises 2 pools but in reality, there is just the one as the second is used for scuba training. We also only found 3 Jacuzzi's which were very hot!! As an A La Carte hotel, it advertises international brands. From that, we assumed there would be branded drinks. Although there were some, there were not many. It was mainly local brands, some were ok, but others not so good. The Positives,.. unfortunately, not too many Food was good. We ate in all 4 restaurants and couldn't fault any of them. Staff were really good and friendly, they work very hard and also happy to help. Plenty of sunbeds so no need to get up at silly o'clock to reserve one (although some people did!!). I don't like to leave negative reviews but we paid a lot of money for this holiday and were expecting something a little more luxurious, especially in the bedrooms, so were a little disappointed. We've previously stayed in Montego bay at a 5* and it was far better than this. The beach isn't the best beach, i've been to better, but it was clean and there were plenty of sunbeds (although we didn't see any doubles). I don't suppose there is much the hotel can do about that though. We were there with friends to celebrate 2 big birthdays and an anniversary, but they weren't acknowledged which was a shame. All in all a bit disappointing so probably wouldn't return. Read less

Very small hotel and younger couples I would stay clear unless you can stand boredom Don’t bother with this hotel look elsewhere We have travelled very extensively all over the Caribbean and the rest of the world, this hotel is basically the worst hotel we have stayed in but with a big price tag ….
