Just left a week long vacation at Xcaret as a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 kids (aged 10, 8 and 3). It really was a great trip with great adventures for the older 2. The 3 stars is really for the poor service we experiences throughout the stay. I’ll break it down by day and park.
Day 1–Xcaret park
It was fine. The underground river was pretty cool but this was our least favorite park overall. Went back for the Mexico espactular show at night which the kids enjoyed. Note to eat dinner prior to going to show, since dinner is extra if purchased at show.
Day 2– chill day at resort
The large slides were a lot of fun for my older 2, and they did them daily. The octopus slides were fun for my youngest. Gym was nice, but AC was not full blast so made for a less than ideal workout.
Example of poor service—we returned to hotel room at 4 PM and it hadn’t been cleaned.
Apparently you have to call daily and ask for a cleaning. Also, replenishing snacks and towels also need to be requested separately and doesn’t always get done on the first request.
We had dinner reservations for Xin GAO, which I booked exactly 30 days prior to our trip. They confirmed and I didn’t realize you had to SPECIFY teppanyaki on the reservation form (there’s no separate place to specify this). My kids really wanted teppanyaki and were really bummed. After begging concierge, they gave us 3 seats at teppanyaki and 2 at the regular restaurant tables. My husband did the teppanyaki experience with my 2 boys. Half way through their dinner, my 3 year olds high chair broke and he busted his lip and was bleeding. So my husband brought him and his dinner to my table and after trying to calm him down, I tried to feed him. The waitress has the nerve to come up to me to tell me his teppanyaki food wasn’t allowed at our table. No checking in, nothing.
After complaining to the manager about this behavior, she doubled down and said that’s their policy.
Day 3– Xel Ha
We snorkeled, did the large water slides, and the river. Was fine.
Had dinner at Las Playas which ended up being our favorite restaurant. We returned here multiple times for à la carte meals…got tired of buffets.
Day 4–Xenses
Was cool for photos + 1 waterslide. We were done with the park in 1.5 hours.
Dinner at trajinera was also great.
Day 5–Xplor
Husband went with older 2 kids and it was their favorite park. The 3 year old was too small so we did hotel activities.
In the evening we did the teatro del rio. I think they were having technical difficulties, but show was alright. Food wasn’t great.
Day 6– another chill resort day.
Had dinner at cantina Los faroles. If you have any picky eaters in your party, this isn’t the restaurant for you. Think fried grasshoppers and ant butter. Not a hit.
My daughter went to kids club multiple days and thoroughly enjoyed herself.
All in all, the food was good, but the service and concierge services need serious work.
