“Not a 5 star resort; food is terrible.”

I've never experienced such poor food at a Cancun resort before. When we tried to order what was on the menu (Route 66) it wasn't available. The buffet restaurant was poorly managed and half the food options were empty most of the time. No salad dressing for the large salad section and the meat and cheese section was warm which is concerning. I don't come to Mexico to eat pizza and burgers. Where are the tacos? Lots of salsa and dips but no chips; perhaps empty too. Struggled to find meals when the buffet was really our only option. Not paying $1000 more to make reservations with Privilege. The rooms are very basic but clean. Room service menu was very limited. Couldn't really have a meal that would fill you up just random things. Marble floors around the restaurants flooded and people slipped and fell every night we were there. Be careful. Our pool side server was fabulous but due to lots of rain and wind we weren't always able to stay at the pool without being cold. I would try any other resort before staying here; don't want a vacation with horrible food!

“The restaurant booking is a farce!”

The hotel is clean and comfortable (junior suite El beso) spacious plenty of wardrobe/ drawers,, good shower constant hot water. Proper hairdryer( not the hose on the wall) our room was cleaned most days even though we didn’t request it. majority of the staff very friendly and will do anything for you (but a couple of rude/ jobsworth staff in customer services). Buffet food was fine for breakfast although I would have like more berries/ Bircher muesli to have, lunch and dinner(we only did twice during our 14 nights) with plenty of choice and seemingly fresh with only a few plates of food that was being used up. We ate several breakfasts at the bistro restaurant, plus a couple of lunches there (excellent staff mayra, Freddie, jasson & Ivan ) and villa marina. Nice coffee shop for cakes and regularly visited the ice cream shop. Lobby bar staff also very friendly( Mateo) . The beach was unusable due to the heavy amount of sargassum even though the staff did their best to clear it. The staff at the dive hut (Irving Escobar) great for booking excursions (we did snorkel at the reef and Isla mujeres) On the negative side due to the beach being unusable this made the 3 pools busy resulting in most of the sunloungers being reserved by 6:15 am! We generally don’t reserve our beds but it was the only way to get one so we had to set an alarm every morning! The pools were clean, with waiters coming round for drinks orders. The beds were quite comfortable but not all had a parasol. We really enjoyed the foam party in the main pool. Also recommend the cycle tour to puerto Morelos hosted by Alan. Our biggest issue was the restaurant booking system which was via the hotel app…bookings opened at 10 am for that evenings booking (unless you were on the privilege tariff in which case your butler could book many days in advance for you) and it was a case of fastest finger first because in seconds the availability was minimal…perhaps a table at 5 pm or it would show 6:30 but only 1 space…or 9:15! Having had problems the first day we went to customer services and queued up from 9:40 daily with mixed results…some staff ( Jose) would happily book us in before the app ‘opened’ others would take your request on a note pad then asked us to call back after 1pm to confirm! Others ( senior staff/ manager) told you to open the app and wait until 10 when they would ‘help you’ but at that point they couldn’t help everyone struggling to get a reservation! Frustratingly most of the a la carte restaurants were half empty each night due to the timed sittings they adopted! We have been to several other hotels in the Caribbean who use apps to book tables but with the ability to book several days in advance and with all tables open and staggered booking times meaning a stress free booking system! This hotel is geared up to serve its privileged guests.. leaving the rest of us with what slim pickings there are left probably hoping we will just use the buffet! The restaurants were nice however but they were keen to encourage you to buy wine off the menu rather than house wine on AI.! in the Italian restaurant the wine is clearly watered down as it tasted like that…and they brought it out ready in the glass rather than pouring from the bottle as they did at the other restaurants and even did a refill in the same way. My husband received a look that would kill from the waiter in the Italian when he said he was happy with the house wine! The blue moon food was excellent, villa marina is Brazilian with meats carved from a skewer at your table. The tapenyaki was ok but we have seen a far better cooking show & food elsewhere. So in summary a nice hotel but for the restaurant booking system and fight for the lack of sun beds spoiling our holiday on a daily basis due to the frustrations/ stress encountered so we will not be returning! Ocean Coral & Turquesa delivers a beautiful, ocean forward experience where nearly every spot on the property gives you a view of the water. The resort shines in service, food variety, entertainment, and housekeeping, with several standout staff members who elevate the stay from good to exceptional. 👥 Staff & Service Highlights 🧳 Privilege & Butler Service – Excellent • Sebastian (Butler) – Attentive, proactive, and consistently helpful. • Privilege Lounge Staff – Warm, efficient, and welcoming throughout the stay. 🛬 Check In Team • Positive: Ange, Claudia, Sophia, Edcarudo, Jesus, Emanuel, Ivan, Angel (“Weezy Pezzi”). • Suggestion: The front desk check in process overall felt slow and disorganized. He is one of the resort’s greatest assets — consistently professional, proactive, and genuinely guest focused. His attention to detail, calm leadership style, and ability to anticipate needs make him someone who would excel in a supervisor or lead butler role. Guests are in excellent hands with him. The Privilege Lounge team — Ange, Claudia, Sophia, Edcarudo, Jesus, Emanuel, and Angel (“Weezy Pezzi”) — also provided warm, attentive service. Housekeeping was outstanding, and bartender Jesus kept the energy high. Activities with Elizabeth at the Privilege Pool were fun and engaging. Evening entertainment, especially the Michael Jackson and Fire Show, was excellent. Dining highlights included blue moon, Los Girasoles, Ritratto, and the Privilege Lounge. Route 66 and the Ocean Bar’s Mama House Burgers were solid. The Japanese restaurant and Villa Buffet could use improvement. Only suggestion: the front desk check in process needs better organization.
