Just returned from a 2 weeks holiday to the H10 Coral and Turquesa hotel in the Riviera Maya, Mexico.
The hotel was half full, half of the hotel was being renovated so most people seemed to have been upgraded to the Privilege side of the resort. The hotel was closing at the end of August for 2 months for renovations.
Check in took a while, especially after a long flight, but we were soon taken to our room by the porters.
The room was lovely with 2 double beds, a big TV screen, a ‘living room area’ and a big balcony with a table and chair. The bathroom was quite spacious, with a separate shower and toilet, and the wardrobe was also spacious. The room was cleaned every day.
What gets you though is the smell of seaweed as soon as you step out of the room. The smell is quite pungent, and although you sort of get used to it, there are days when it is stronger.
The grounds are well kept and constantly being maintained.
Restaurants:
There are a selection of restaurants, The Blue Moon ( for couples ), Sensai ( Japanese - Oscar the chef was a very good showman ), the Italian, Mexican and Route 66, and the Buffet restaurant. All were very good and the selection in the buffet was very good and varied, with lots of fresh produce / freshly made pizza and a child friendly food corner. Booking into the ‘a la carte restaurants’ can be a bit tricky, as you can only book from 10 in the morning of the booking using a QR code, and the majority of the time, the restaurants are already full with Privilege customers who can book a few days ahead.
The lobby bar was very quiet during our stay, but the barmen Matteo and Frankie were very polite and friendly. The pool bars were also very good.
There is also an ice cream parlour open from 1500, and Mike’s coffee place which was always busy, and had wonderful coffee and a selection of cakes and muffins.
Pools:
We mainly used the quiet pool, which had various water jets. The pool was a fair size with sun loungers all around. As the hotel was half full, we had no problem finding loungers at any time of the day, which was refreshing. The water was clean.
We went to the activity pool with the swim up bar, only for the foam parties ( one at night on Saturdays and one in the afternoon on Wednesdays) and it was great fun, but the water looked a bit cloudy.
There was also a child pool and a Privilege pool.
Entertainment:
The day entertainment was good from what I could see. The teens loved playing pickleball and there were lots of activities in the activity pool. There were also complementary daily group cycle rides to Port Morelos ( about 7 miles return but all flat roads).
The evening entertainment however was a bit of a let down, there were a couple of good shows ( Fire and Circus shows), but the rest was very lacking, with karaoke evening, and a film night which kept stopping….the square emptied by 2100. Most evenings, the entertainment finished by 2145, and there was an open air disco by the activity pool every evening.
Let down:
The seaweed - this meant no beach at all, and the smell was quite overpowering. You could see carpets of seaweed coming to shore, and what must have been the resort beach was covered by mountains of seaweed. This was unpleasant to see and smell.
Raccoons - there were everywhere! Pool / central square / bar / pathways to the accommodations. You could not leave anything out - our pool ball went missing from the side pocket of a bag, and we assume a raccoon got it. They were going on table tops in the central square in the evening. Although it does say not to feed the animals, a lot of people do, and children were getting quite excited about seeing them.
Summary: we had a good holiday, the weather was glorious, the staff were very polite and friendly, and the hotel was good if you bypass the negative above.
Would we go back to the resort? No, because of the above.
