This is our fourth consecutive year in Orlando and our first stay at The Portofino. The staff are wonderfully friendly (special mention for Kelly on reception), the rooms are large and spotless, the pools are fantastic, with a choice of a more ‘active’ pool or a quieter, Italian themed pool area. Both with lounger service so you barely have to move! Early park access is great and the regular boat transfers to the Universal parks ran all day until late and were seamless. All in all a brilliant trip. Would highly recommend. Read less

Having previously stayed at the Portofino in the past and loving its convenience for the parks, early entry and express ticket upgrades we decided to stay again. We booked a room that had a harbour view for three nights which on first viewing was lovely. The first day we got up early and left early but on the second morning I decided to sit on the patio area to have a coffee. Unfortunately I was unable to do this because I noticed the resident rats first and then the droppings. Seeing three rats together and clearly comfortable in their environment right outside our patio window clearly meant there was a BIG rat problem and that it must have been an issue for some time. I escalated this to the front desk via their concierge texting service, but when I finally got through to a non-automated response was in one of the parks. They eventually offered a room change - which seemed futile considering the amount of nights remaining and the fact that I wasnt even there to move repack and move. Nothing else was initially offered (I have the screenshots) until I expressed my disgust and asked if they would be informing the young family next door that there was a big issue with rats right outside their room, upon which all I was offered was a waiving of parking. After that no follow up personal apology or checking-in occurred. There is no way that the hotel was unaware of the rat issue, the droppings and rats must have been seen by cleaners*, maintenance, security and other guests (the room next door seemed abandoned and the grass overgrown adding to this train of thought) and the rats were different sizes and ages suggesting an established family there. So I can’t help but reach the conclusion that as a hotel they were happy to book a family into a room knowing there was an infestation outside there window and a very real possibility of rats entering the room were the doors unknowingly left open. It also was hugely disappointing and insulting when discovering that after the maintenance/engineer had apparently been round while we were at the parks, the rat crap was left for us to enjoy and the rats were back visiting the next morning... The Portofino isnt cheap and we paid a lot of money for what was not only a disgusting issue, but a very impersonal approach to dealing with it and the feeling that they knew about the room (someone must of as the photos will demonstrate) but were happy to book a family into it regardless of health and safety issues and regardless of the fact that staying there isnt cheap. Hopefully you will see from the photos the extent of the problem and why the initial booking into that particular room and subsequent almost disinterested way of dealing with it has left us extremely disappointed and unlikely to ever consider it again. *maybe the cleaners werent aware as they came after 6pm in the evening which doesnt help when youre back and getting ready for dinner. Fantastic resort, can’t speak highly enough of it. My family loved the pools and getting the water taxi every day was lovely. We didn’t eat there but I heard Momma’s restaurant was very good. The Unlimited FastPass’s are worth the money alone, and it is definitely a cheaper way to acquire them! Parking is $36 a night which I think is excessive but… Read more
