The hotel

Built in the style of an historic sugar plantation, Sugar Beach is a world-class resort set in 30 acres of tropical gardens. If you're not satisfied with just the facilities the hotel has to offer (although we know you will be!), this hotel also has preferred access to Ile aux Cerfs with it's tranquil beach, wide offering of water sports, additional dining options and an 18-hole golf course for the sports enthusiasts. The hotel itself creates a romantic setting with it's idyllic beaches and gourmet dining, but if you do have the kids in tow, the Sun Kids Club has daily itineraries to ensure they have their own adventure; giving you time to relax at the chic Buddha Beach Bar with a cocktail in hand.

The staff like Ms. Anuradha Servais, Ms. Deborah were all incredibly warm and welcoming, always ready with a smile and quick to help with anything we needed. The food was consistently great, with a variety of options and fresh local ingredients. Our room was comfortable, clean, and had a lovely view that made waking up each morning a treat. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and you genuinely relax. We left feeling refreshed and already thinking about our next visit. Read less

Stay at Sugar Beach Hotel – June Visit with Family We stayed at the Sugar Beach Hotel for two weeks in early June with our two-year-old son. The check-in process was smooth and professional. Interestingly, we were not informed at check-in that we had received a room upgrade—we only found out later, which of course was a pleasant surprise. Our room was located very close to the beach, which was convenient. However, it felt a bit too small for a family with a young child. The staff overall were friendly and helpful. That said, we did notice that the breakfast chefs seemed somewhat unmotivated and, at times, even irritated by guest requests. Another point of criticism is the lack of enforcement of the dress code during dinner. Upon check-in, guests are provided with printed guidelines outlining appropriate attire, but these are rarely checked. It was common to see men arriving in shorts and Birkenstock sandals—something that doesn’t reflect the level of luxury expected at a five-star resort. If the dress code is not enforced, it undermines the overall ambiance. One particularly disappointing experience occurred on my birthday. We had planned to dine at the Beach Restaurant and arrived at 14:33, only to be curtly informed that the kitchen had closed at 14:30. There was no prior indication that the last order would be taken before that time. When we raised this with the restaurant manager, he claimed the final order was accepted at 14:15—something we later learned was not true. We were then sent to the buffet restaurant, only to be redirected back to the Beach Restaurant in an attempt to resolve the confusion. Unfortunately, the stress of the situation put a damper on what should have been a celebratory afternoon. A general issue throughout the hotel seems to be the lack of consistent communication. Whether it’s about restaurant opening hours or information about late check-out, we often received conflicting messages from staff. It appears that there is no centralized communication system, and guests are left to navigate this inconsistency on their own. Another aspect that affected the experience was the music at Buddha Beach Bar. It plays loud, club-like beats from early morning, including during breakfast. This Ibiza-style soundtrack is quite jarring and doesn't suit the serene atmosphere one would expect from a luxury resort. We would strongly recommend softer or no music at all during breakfast for a more relaxing start to the day. To the hotel’s credit, our concerns were listened to, but unfortunately, they were not resolved to our satisfaction. On a positive note, we would like to highlight the exceptional service provided by Anand at the buffet restaurant, Dhanish at Mare Mare, and also Bhavin, who was very attentive and dedicated. And also Isabell from the gym. Read less

The hotel was great. All members of staff were really nice. The best restaurant was Maré Maré, with very good à la carte dining every evening. Special thanks to Vaishnan who was very kind and attentive. Overall, very nice stay and would recommend.
