Carmel Mission Inn in Carmel-by-the-Sea is a laidback Central Coast base that keeps things modern, comfy and refreshingly unfussy. You’re right by Highway 1 for Big Sur days out, with Carmel, Monterey and Carmel Valley all in easy reach, then it’s back to the courtyard for fire pit hangs, a dip in the heated outdoor pool and a long soak in the hot tub/jacuzzi. “Nice hotel with friendly staff”

Would have given a higher rating but we were not told there was a $30 parking fee for each day. Why? Nothing was special about parking.

Good option if visiting the Carmel area, a short distance to Monterey and the coast. The buildings give a cheerful road side motel vibe, and once you pass the dimly-lit hallway, rooms are actually renovated to a very tasteful and high standard. Spacious, and stocked with amenities including a mini fridge, though water will set you back a pricy $6 - tip: walk across the street to the local Safeway, it’s open 24 hours. Also, restaurants at the Barnyard and the Crossroads shopping centers are walking distance (shout-out to the Irish pub O’Callaghans for reopening exclusively for our group!). Convenient location if passing through, or needing a base for exploring the area for a couple days. Conference facilities are plentiful, though the A-V could use an update. Live music on the patio was a nice touch. Staff at reception are friendly, as are the bar/restaurant staff. Pool area is nice, and cleaned regularly. Overall a retro throwback to motor inns of the past, with modern amenities.

Mike was amazing, very accommodating for our group. Room was cozy, clean and in a great location. Highly recommend. We were able to walk around downtown from our hotel. If after dark bring a flashlight, the roads are uneven and difficult to navigate after wine tasting 😂
