Post Ranch Inn is one of those rare places that is almost impossible to adequately describe until you experience it for yourself. From the moment we arrived, the setting, privacy, architecture, and sheer beauty of the property felt extraordinary. The way the rooms disappear into the landscape and the views stretch endlessly over Big Sur make it feel completely removed from the rest of the world.
Our room was beautiful, peaceful, and incredibly private, and there is something about waking up here that makes you want to slow down and simply take everything in. The grounds are spectacular, the atmosphere is serene, and the entire property feels thoughtfully designed around the landscape rather than imposed upon it. It truly is a special place.
Our second night became an experience we will never forget when the Timber Fire broke out nearby. From our room, we watched a helicopter repeatedly collect water from the pond directly in front of us to fight the fire. Seeing that happening so close by was both incredible and understandably nerve-racking. We packed our belongings that night just in case an evacuation became necessary, but watching the response unfold also gave us an incredible appreciation for the people working so hard to protect this beautiful area.
Despite everything happening around us, our stay at Post Ranch was extraordinary. Matt and I will absolutely return, and we sincerely hope Post Ranch, its wonderful staff, and the surrounding Big Sur community remain safe through the fire.
There are beautiful hotels, and then there are places that stay with you. Post Ranch is one of those places.
