The hotel

Pure paradise if you’re heading to Hawaii for its beaches, Alohilani boasts contemporary design and is steps from Waikiki Beach’s exclusive ‘Kuhio’ stretch. You can be snorkelling, surfing or swimming just moments after you arrive. If that’s not enough water, Alohilani Resort’s 280,000 gallon Oceanarium is filled with Hawaiian reef fishes, creating a soothing setting for drinks at O Bar and island breakfasts at Lychee. And, if your aquatic thirst still isn’t quenched, the fifth floor pool deck’s an impeccably chic setting, with its infinity pool, paddling pool, bar, overstuffed teak loungers, driftwood sculptures, and ocean views. You could even splash out on a cabana or water lounger. By night, it’s a magical space with lanterns, fire pits, and live music, ideal after dining in one of its two restaurants led by world-famous ‘Iron Chef’ Masaharu Morimoto.

Very difficult to breath . You could not get away from the smell. Too much carpet everywhere. Not on the beach , but close enough. The pool deck looks nice, however its crowded, not enough loungers and no air movement. They do not have fans. Air movement is blocked by surrounding buildings. You are mostly looking at buildings all around you. Not what we envisioned for our first time in Waikiki. Had I research it more, I would not have booked my stay here . I recommend booking something with beach front, this way when you lounge or use the patio for lunch or dinner , you get ocean view. Also, make sure you pay for higher up rooms. I paid extra 50 per night to move from 6th floor to 30th. If i didnt, I would have had to put up with the racket on the 5th floor pool deck until close every day. Read less

Overall our stay was ok and acceptable. We love to stay at new hotels on Oahu, and thought this would be a splurge since on most sites it’s listed as 5 stars. As many have said, this is not a 5 star and closer to 4. If you have that expectation coming in you will be much less disappointed than we were. The good: I traveled as a couple for 5… Read more
Overall our stay was ok and acceptable. We love to stay at new hotels on Oahu, and thought this would be a splurge since on most sites it’s listed as 5 stars. As many have said, this is not a 5 star and closer to 4. If you have that expectation coming in you will be much less disappointed than we were. The good: I traveled as a couple for 5 nights and found the lobby to be beautiful! Housekeeping was incredible! They kept our room spotless and gave minimum 4 towels which we loved (even if they were a tad small and toiletries just ok compared to other 5 star hotels with name brand products) The location! Perfectly central to Waikiki beach. 5 min walk to the beach and all restaurants. Free chair and umbrella rentals! The gym was well equipped but quite packed. The pool and swell bar were very nice! We had poke nachos, club Sando, and smash burger. All were very good! Aquarium was pretty. Variety of daily activities including large recreation deck. The bad: Valet was not the most friendly which is the first impression of a hotel. Throughout our stay they didn’t open the door, hung up on me on the phone and it was like they didn’t acknowledge us. Odd! Parking spots are very narrow! The ugly: My biggest issue was with the room. We booked an oceanfront room and the bathroom was the size of an airplane bathroom. I’m not kidding. You couldn’t open the door and be in the bathroom at the same time. All king oceanfront rooms have the TINIEST bathrooms. I call guest services 4X to get moved to a higher floor since I wanted to shoot travel content for the hotel but ultimately I couldn’t because the room was so mid. It had chipped mirror and furniture and was overall dated with the full length mirror on the floor and stained carpet. I’m very grateful management moved us on holiday weekend and really appreciate the switch! Hope this helps ground expectations and that you will have more enjoyable stay knowing these things beforehand! Read less

Upon arrival, after a 12-hour flight, our room was not ready and we had to wait an additional 40 minutes. There was also a communication issue with one of the staff members. I called to ask about the hotel activities such as lei making, hula dance, and the ocean purification ritual, and was told they were no longer available, even though they are still advertised on the website. Additionally, breakfast is not included and comes at a very high price, and even parking fees are extremely expensive. Read less

The homeless problem in the immediate area around the hotel is problematic and not a good place for children. The McDonalds across the street is struggling with the unhoused population. We witnessed a very unhealthy situation while at the McDonalds. The room footprints are tiny. The smell and the dampness of the rooms is problematic. The pool and lounge area are unusable as they are completely overcrowded. The pictures look nice, but if you are traveling with children stay away from this hotel. Read less

I was looking forward to this stay after seeing the photos and reading positive reviews, but my experience was very disappointing. Check-in was slow, staff were unfriendly, and my first room overlooked noisy air conditioning units. No one answered the room phone, so I had to carry my luggage back to the front desk, only to be given another room with no directions. Staff misdirected me multiple times, and I even witnessed two employees arguing in front of me while one laughed and mocked the situation. The room I was moved to was not ocean view, and after several calls and offering to pay more, I was finally upgraded—for an additional fee. This felt more like a budget motel than a five-star resort. Between the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and overall treatment, I left very disappointed. I will not return and cannot recommend this property. Read less
