Star rating

The hotel

Pure paradise if you’re heading to Hawaii for its beaches, Alohilani boasts contemporary design and is steps from Waikiki Beach’s exclusive ‘Kuhio’ stretch. You can be snorkelling, surfing or swimming just moments after you arrive. If that’s not enough water, Alohilani Resort’s 280,000 gallon Oceanarium is filled with Hawaiian reef fishes, creating a soothing setting for drinks at O Bar and island breakfasts at Lychee. And, if your aquatic thirst still isn’t quenched, the fifth floor pool deck’s an impeccably chic setting, with its infinity pool, paddling pool, bar, overstuffed teak loungers, driftwood sculptures, and ocean views. You could even splash out on a cabana or water lounger. By night, it’s a magical space with lanterns, fire pits, and live music, ideal after dining in one of its two restaurants led by world-famous ‘Iron Chef’ Masaharu Morimoto.

Don’t waste your money! This gym used to be good, but not anymore in my opinion the current management has a poor attitude and lacks local market insight and customer service skills. They sent an email advising they would be increased the gym membership prices from $160 per month to $295 per month this is an 85% increase. The gym is small and gym equipment is not maintained. In my opinion the staff lack skills in customer service and in my opinion they behave as if they are socializing with their friends instead of being at work. On a practical level there are often no towels in the shower facilities , no soap , no toiletries such as razors and hair combs, but there is a lot of attitude from the staff to the point that they make sure that you feel uncomfortable being there. Often the gym assistant is in the restroom talking on her phone instead of helping with the facility and customer requests. I’m not sure if this is a five star service facility but if you ask me it’s deteriorated since the new management started in February 2025. Very disappointing , don’t waste your time or money. I was disappointed by my stay and would not recommend this hotel based on my experience of service. The hotel promised to be good but did not meet expectation of a 5 star resort and the price. The cleanliness of the room was not up to standard, with long black hairs from the previous guest left all over the shower. These remained for my whole stay, showing the bathroom was not cleaned at all during my stay. Staff made commitments to do things, that were never followed through on. The shower ran out of shower wash and was only replaced when we asked for it. The hot water was turned off for a day from 9.30 to 5.00. We were unable to have showers or use any hot water and were not offered any compensation We paid extra for the Longboard club, but due to a conference that was being held, part of the area we had paid extra for was sectioned off and we were not able to access it. Finally, the made mistakes with the payments and tried to overcharge me for a stay that had already been paid for, which took one week for them to resolved and come back to me with an apology. While the facilities are great, the level and quality of service are not what I expect from a 5 star hotel. I have stayed in Waikiki before at 3 star hotels and this stay did not provide a better experience. For future visits I will go back to other less expensive options where the service level is the same. Read less

Our first room had black mold in the bathroom, and bedroom area. Got moved from that room to another and the other had mold in the bathroom as well. They upgraded up to the longboard club without our permission resulting in us paying way more than we should’ve. And after we got out of the first room, after the mold sent me my husband and infant to the hospital for sickness they put an elderly woman and child in that room after saying they’d fix it. If you’re there for a couple days it’s not a bad hotel, we were there for 13 days. Read less
